View Full Version : What are the real national growth numbers?
licks2 03-15-07, - 04:50 PM I was listening to Wendal Jones today...he gettin worse than steve Mckenny! Nah I een ger fault a man fer sayin what he wan say...since that's he station and all...but don't think that everybody will roll over and "play" stupid!
Here is waht caused me to get mad at him is when he "dissed" a female fer giving him the true numbers that World fact book, central band of the Bahmas, Imf, cdb, idb and any other GDP measuring agency around the world put out on the bahamas!
When the woman told him waht the central bank published (1.6 bill since 2002), mr J said she een reading the numbers right...and cut she off for talkin foolishness...as he like to say! All the young lady was tellin him is that only PLP says that our Unemployment rate is 6.6% when the rest of the world have us at 10.2%(current). In addition, we hear the PLP talking about the 20 plus billions ingested into the bahamian economy since their election to power. Well, those agencies, included the Cnetral Bank of the Bahams, mr J. placed us at 1.6 billion since 2002! For example, from SPENDING PARITY OF 4.8 BILLIONM IN 2002 TO A 6.4 IN 2007...Feb 2007...year to date! Even when the young lady told him that iformation came from the central bank's website...he still told her she een know what she talkin! Nah I wouda thought that a big news person like Mr J would have this information...since he was discussin the issue with that young FNM bouy!
Hell, man, maybe that young lady has found where them "shadow" jobs are! In the numbers ma dearies...they don't exist!:cutie:
Nah Ieeen know bout yall...but 6.4 billion take away 4.8 een no damn 20 billion in the neck er the woods I come outta!! What perry dem fail to realize is that dem international peps een no PLP or FNM and dey een give er damn if ya ger lose the election, dey just report the numbers!:shhh: :gi:

Quite frankly Mr. Jones sounds pro PLP and will oppose any one or issue to the contrary.

Wendell Jones is a lost cause! I understand that a PLP cabinet minister is a silent partner of his, by virtue of the fact that they had to bail him out so many times finacially, So what else can we expect?
Sing tommy tucker, sing on!
The PLP numbers are suspect, if the economy is doing so well and the Gov't is taking in all of this revenue, why is it that so many teachers have not been paid for the past 14 months, why is it so difficult for the defence force to get a raise, why is it that the police can't even get all the tools that they need to fight crime, and the lsit goes on and on. Unemploment in Grand Bahama alone is unbelievable. They said that the percentage of discouraged workers alone in Grand Bahama is 28%. Discouraged workers are those who they say have been looking for employment for so long and hav'nt been able to fing any, that they've stopped looking. They don't even include these people in their unemployment numbers, but they are that, unemployed. So imagine what the unemployment figure is on that Island alone. If you count the discouraged workers in nassau along with the over 10% that have been counted imagine what you get from that. See it does not matter how much foolishness the gov't talks about how good things are, people out there know better, because they can't feel what these people are talking about.
In their case Things are good, but good for who? For them, their families and their cronies.

I though you was an FNM makeing that kind of statment. But i don't think Mr Jones is no wear as bias as Mr Mike Smith. Last week i call in to Mike Smith when he was talking about Shan Gibson, Koed Smith, being renomminated to run on the PLP ticket in this up comeing election & that bias Mike smith would not let me make my point he's getting worse as election gets near.As far as the Bahamian economy is concern, you may not see what the goverment is saying, but trust me other people in other parts of the country can very well see it, so speak for your self.

If that is true what your saying, Mr Jones company is'nt the only
one. You have alot of big time businesses particularly on the eastern road who like to short change their employes & treat them like this is still slavery times. My most successful years in working in this country was working for black Bahamians. I accomplish alot.
Alien 03-16-07, - 05:45 AM I did not hear the show, but 10% sounds like the most sensible figure. Some have us down at 9% (teetering at 10%) and some have us as high as 13%. I think the most reasonable figure, can be about 10%, give or take a few percentage points.
Now, I think we have to be careful when we listen to PC talk about the economy. We all know he does not know, or understands what it is he is talking about. If James Smith, were to jump up and say it then I would listen more attentively, as JS seems to be a fairly sensible man on the economy. So far, JS has not been quoting these figures, that the PM seems to have pegged as the real unemployment figures. Now or future.
With that, PC may be speaking about the "future" unemployment rate or the expected, after the "manifestation" (LOL), of these projects. Which is a very confident position to say the least. But, 6% still sounds dodgy and even worse, when he said that the Bahamas will have 0% unemployment. That is something I am WAITING to see. LOL...
I won't give this site anymore talking points, in this regard because I can't wait to hear what PC has to say about the economy next. LOL....
Can't give him too much weaponry, he has advisors that he "listens" to. And pay them top dollar as well.
