Two More Homicides
By Darrin Culmer
The country recorded another two homicides over the weekend, the result of separate shootings in two Over-the-Hill communities on Saturday.
According to police reports, the first incident occurred around 11am Saturday when a man believed to have been in his mid-20s and a resident of central New Providence was shot in the abdomen by an attacker.
Police press liaison officer Inspector Walter Evans said the victim was transported to hospital, but eventually succumbed to the injuries.
Roughly 12 hours later the second fatal attack occurred when a gunman approached a group of men playing cards in a yard on Miami Street.
According to police reports, the assailant shot the victim in the head.
EMS personnel were called to the scene and eventually pronounced the victim dead, Mr. Evans said.
He was described as a 29-year-old resident of the Englerston community.
Police officials said they are following some leads in connection with the matter.
Police officers were also able to remove two illegal firearms from the streets of New Providence on Saturday, one in the Montell Heights area around noon and the other, a .357 calibre revolver, in the St. Alban’s Drive area Saturday night.

Yes... a new direction. Some people have made decisions to be animals and not apart of this bahamian society. No more preaching....detain the scum!
diarra 03-19-07, - 05:55 PM To be very honest..... as sad as the entire crime situation is I am not so surprised. We have hundreds if not thousands of aggravated assaults (stabbings, chappings, bottle fights etc) every year that go unnoticed. I mean everyone here knows that PMH on a given day is almost like triage centers in war zones at times. The fact is over the years it just wasn't being reported to the public who busily go about they business everyday and would only gasp at the headlines or news reports. Now, as alot of my friends who I grew up with or younger guys I know who still in the Kemp Rd area would say, "Ya can't come to a fight with cutlass or knife nomore cuz eryone gat a gun so my gun gotta be bigger dan theirs." Well fact of the matter is just that, eryone have some sort of weapon now. ANd the concept of unknown retaliation is at an extreme level. I memba when one of the bravest tings was when the gangs would come to an enemy's funeral as a sign of disrespect.... and that was back in the early 90's. So yeah, those real gang dudes back then either dead, in jail or outta the life but the seeds were deeply sown and every level of society ein even check about it.
To me we still have a society based on 1973 structural ideals, where we believe we have strong parenting and good morals in homes. Well family planning was a bunch of BS cuz grammy's are in their 40's now and just startin to live dey own life, so the hell if they sittin home all day watching any grandchirren. So we know where that puts the parent! So da streets it is for chirren. But we look like we ein wanna admit that these ein the same shoot marble, spin top, play hopscotch and fly kite outdoor times. Dese dem materialistic kinda times and that within a immoral or unstable environment will only produce problems.
I ain't surprise that murders are so frequent at all. This 17 - 30 generation for the most part couldn't give a flyin u know wha bout nuttin much but money, women/ men and partyin.Like dudes I know is say 2 dis day "money or murder" And now we realise that, that attitude is sumtin many take serious nowadays. Runnin n hidin in ya house and scared to come out at night or go certain areas only giving these attitudes more power. I would hang n cat-nine tail all day and all night. 24hrs ...... I even think we need an outside, foreign Crime tzar of some sort to come in and shake up the whole monotony that is our policing....Those are some of the only ways I think this will be curbed anytime soon.
The way things are going we might break a 100 this year!
bahmaboy 03-22-07, - 03:03 AM sad to say but its only goin to get worst
it looks like the justice system isnt serious.
to turn things around first the justice system has to be swift and effecient especially when it comes to the crime of murder.
an effective justice system ie fast hanging, cat o nine wipings for burlary, assualt, rape etc. is needed to curb the criminal behaviour of those already grown up.
next the community has to ban together to raise the children coming up ie teach them morals and respect.
the reason why i say things will only get worse is becuase i dont see either of these two happening for nassau anytime soon so it will get worse.
in jamaica its to the point where they have curfews. the bahamas is already seeing a step in this direction with the agrressive operation quit storm next step will be curfews.
i know it sounds bad to say but like i always tell yall i am a realist, striaght shooter and the reality is nassau is FINISH
GavinK 03-28-07, - 06:21 PM These are 2 more for the little island of Nassau?
Do Nassuvians want more crime? What is wrong with the island? The people? Is there a problem? Yes. How long has this been going on? As long as I can remember......and I'm 38 yrs old.
You don't hear about all this crime on Long Island....just Nassau. Yes only 4,000 people there but still what is wrong with Nassau? What went wrong?

I blame the parents for not caring to install educational skills, knowledge, understanding, values, and wisdom in their kids. They just let their kids grow up on their own. They just don't seem to care.
