View Full Version : MY opinion of our police.

Since we are talking about the police today I decided to put my thoughts on 'paper.'

I have never had personal run ins with the police except traffic and road block situations.

I was driving slowly through a roadblock one time when the policeman A on my left waved for me to go by, apparantly the policeman B in the middle of the road had put his hand up for me to stop, I did not see that command so I proceeded to go by. Policeman B banged on the rear of my car. I stopped. He was so mad that he had to stop me that he told me to get the hell out da ca. I got out while asking what happened. At the same time policeman A also came up as I had only driven about 6 ft. He asked police B what happened. Police B asked where i tink I going after he done tell me to stop. Police A say look man I told her to go. Police B say he don't care, I need to mo out of his way and let him search my car and since I can't hear I will feel. Police A say, man we don't have to go through all this and he called the inspector over. When the inspector came over police B say I looked right in his eye when he told me to stop and I meant not to stop. Police A say man I told her to go by. The inspector told me to get back in my car and I was free to leave.

My husband wanted to make a report that same night but after I spoke to my 3 family members who are policemen I just left it alone. My cousin found out which policeman it was and he had him called me at home one day to ask my forgiveness and said he got in trouble that night and thanked me for not reporting him.

Another time I saw the police locking up a jonser. I was at a carwash and I witnessed the whole scene from start to finish. I told the policeman he should not punch the jonser up like that right in front of witnesses, he told me if I don't shut up he will lock me up for interferring with him doing his job.

I SHUT UP!!!

I know our police are products of our society but there must be a way for them to garner the admiration and respect of the community. The way I was spoken to on those 2 occaisons left me with no choice to put them all in the same basket.

One thing that has always amazed is how come our policeman have NEVER shot a white Bahamian or tourist while fearing for their lives!!

Think about it.

There are 300,000 of us and 3.5-4.5million tourist a year, most of whom are white. Having worked in the service industry for a while I know firsthand that some tourist can be extremly rude and intimidating. We have had to call the police many times to restore order. Without fail, the police always came in a very professional manner. Mind you they have had to lock up some tourist but had NEVER shot one yet.

Every time our policeman have shot one of our citizens to death they have ALWAYS said that they fired because they fear for their lives. The policemen are black and so are all the victims.

Is it that we hate ourselves.

How is it statisticly possible that our trigger happy policeman do not shoot tourist?

Think about it.

Good question .. i've never been shot by the police. ;)

I think too many cops dont even know the law, or at least what rights we Bahamians have, also, did you know that a "hand held" speed radar can be fought in court, as it only works properly if it is mounted on a tripod. Course its cheaper just to pay the fine in most cases.

yes,
i challenged a ticket....
the officer holding the speed gun never showed up...
they couldn't verify that the machine was being used properly and the case was dismissed...

ive met some really GOOD PROFESSIONAL police officers...Cable Beach has some wonderful officers,....most of them i think....CDU...and the guys who patrol the little gay district in town, are pretty good, professional...in my experiences with them...
BUT ive met some real dangerous cops who don't have a goddam clue

No, but I'd like to know where it is. Usually in most cities the "gay district" is the happening district in terms of food and entertainment. Just wondering if the same applies here.

i can say that there is lots of good food and entertainment in the area...its in town...
but that's all i can say...they may revoke my membership...lol
its very small...'the district'...just two gay bars in close proximity....
but i must add both the establishments are owned and managed by gay men....and one also has a restaurant....its wonderful...at least the chef is....

but there are no flags out so you just might miss it...
