South African President Thabo Mbeki poses for a photo with Pime Minister Christie today on the second day of his visit to the Bahamas.
What do you will come out of this state visit by Mbeki?
...What do you (think) will come out of this state visit by Mbeki?
I was wondering that myself! I am glad he is visiting. Maybe he can learn from us!
I quote from this site, http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0107983.html
"In 2000 and 2001, Mbeki wrestled with a slumping economy, a skyrocketing crime rate, and the country's rising AIDS epidemic. South Africa, which has the highest number of HIV-positive people in the world (nearly 5 million), has been hampered in fighting the epidemic by its president's highly controversial views. Mbeki has denied the link between HIV and AIDS, claimed that the West has exaggerated the epidemic to sell drugs, and charged that Western AIDS activists consider "Africans to be germ carriers and human beings of a lower order." The international community as well as most South African leaders, including Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu, have admonished Mbeki on his lack of leadership in combating AIDS. Finally, in Aug. 2003, after years of delay, Mbeki reversed himself on his hands-off AIDS policy, promising a nationwide antiretroviral drug program that will prolong the life of AIDS victims."
President Mbeki rules a country that is not exactly a shining star of Africa!!!

Hey CG,
I wud really like to commend u for that posting because from the time of his visit i found myself asking the same questions. Quite frankly i find it absurd especially when the government and the opposition debate about the PM meeting with Leaders of countries that are "less favorable" to the United States. In fact, its funny how we parade a man around our nation who clearly violates human rights by denying his citizens treatment or the proper education on the HIV/AIDS crisis...basically a murderer...because of his own stubborn n insolent ideas.....but since he is accepted by the United States its alright and he is a man of good favour and honor despite violations of human rights and the outright corruption that he fuels in his own country. Then on the other hand we display a high level of hypocrisy for even making an "issue" out of the mere suggestion of the P.M. meeting with a leader from and "unfavorable" nation.....funny! OH the HYPOCRISY!!!!!! :gi:

Our First Lady, Madame Bernadette Christie rises to the occasion always and during the visit of President Mbeki and Madame Mbeki she not only rose to the occasion, but in doing so she established herself as the "best" First Lady of the world. A woman of beauty of brains, Mrs. Christie is a role model. I tip my hat off to her and say, "You go Your Excellency!" Congratulations to you!

I am not sure I would be as enthusiastic about her role as you, but she was, and is, a credit to the Bahamas. As indeed all our "First Ladies" have been!
