I am planning to retire soon from government service and I am thinking of living in Freeport. There MANY reasons why I am considering Freeport.

1.Real Estate is much cheaper than New Providence.
2.Crime is much lower there.
3.Less congestion and much lower population density.
4.Shipping from Florida is much cheaper and convenient.
5.Better planning and cleaner enviroment.

These are the pluses.I know unemployment is high in Freeport, but other than that, what other negative am I missing?
I need coherent and helpful feedback. How is the cost of living; e.g. utilities, gasoline, entertainment, grocery, medical etc.:bye:

Someone who live there now should be able to give you more than me but I'll give what I know.

Well as far as Light the rate is lower than BEC's. FOCOL (AKA Sun Oil, shell Bahamas) has a monopoly over Gas within the city. Of course someone who lives there now should tell you the rate for that.

Entertainment....the usual movie theatre. Port Lucaya Marketplace "ports" is really a tourist trap across from Our Lucaya...they do entertainment in the evenings. Better to vist in the early evening before the younger crowds assemble. I don't think groceries are any different. For medical there is the Rand Memorial. Then you have your private care at Lucayan Medical centers. There is also St. Jude's medical center but I have never went in there since it was built.

The beaches are still there. You can take stolls/jogs along the shores past private properties since no one has quarreled about that yet...no one hasn't messed that up....yet.

It's going to be quieter no matter were you live. Some people told me they would go crazy without the sounds of the traffic or whatever else. Depending on where you are you might hear a different sound....like chirping birds...lol....at least that's what I miss.

Too much crime, traffic and illegal immigration. The cost of land is through the roof. For instance,a 50x100 lot in South Beach NP cost around $50,000. In Freeport Lucaya, one can get a 100x115 piece of property for around $20,000-More than 4 time less!http://www.gbdevco.com/land_search.php?cmd=result&page=1&type=&area=&development=&subdivision=&keyword=&Min_Price=0&Max_Price=166666600
