View Full Version : What a GOVERNMENT is supposed to do!
educateme 03-29-07, - 01:55 PM I hate to start a new political thread but I am getting a bit annoyed at people labelling politicians as National Heroes.
Really now...a government whether PLP or FNM or whatever is supposed to do some basic things such as building roads, homes for the impoverished, building schools and developing necessary infrastructure such as potable water and electricity. These are things the government is supposed to do.
NO government PLP or FNM should be bragging about these types of achievements...this is what Governments do. Measure these politicians on their moral standings, on whether or not they were willing to lose the popular vote by standing for what is right and improving the status of the people.
Come on how could any man be considered a hero because he carried out the job he was mandated to perform with the people's money not his own.
Bradley Roberts with his vile and venomous spewing self should NEVER be considered anybody's hero. Admitting to having sex but not raping a woman as a married man...come on! His accomplishments as Minister of Works are what a government does...that is all...not what HE did.
Pierre Dupuch...what has he really done for his country or even the constituencies he has served? As a resident of St. Margaret's I see NO evidence that he was even the MP...NOTHING from Kemp Road to Blair...Nothing done... The little park on Shirley Street is all the children have and that is awful. Instead of waiting for 4 years for Perry's to fulfill his promise for him to address Parliament, he should have had Perry promise him to do something meaningful for his constituency like clear down a piece of land and bulid a nice park!
NO politician in this present time, PLP or FNM has done anything substantial enough to earn the title HERO. They are paid to do what they do. Yes congratulate and commend them if they are honest and moral but let us stop placing titles on undeserving persons. Come on Ron Pinder in my opinion is a HERO to then because at least he has done his job!
This post is long but we Bahamians better stop jiving around on this party issue and hold these PUBLIC SERVANTS accountable because that is our money they are spending!
the government surely can do alot more, regardless of whether they are PLP or FNM .. there is SO much more to be done, that can be done, and should be done. They need to hire people with ideas.
RockWell 03-29-07, - 03:29 PM BADA BING!:hammer: :hammer: :hammer: :hammer:
licks2 03-29-07, - 05:02 PM Ya damn skippy! NOT EVEN RONNIE PINDER...NOT A DAMN ONE!
IF YA ASKED ME...OUR TRUE HEROES ARE THOSE MOTHERS AND FATHERS WHO, AGAINST ALL ODDS...MAINTAINED, EDUCATED AND GUIDED THE MEN AND WOMAN WHO BUILT THIS NATION!
Alien 03-29-07, - 06:37 PM Everywhere they honour people who "choose" to get involved in public service. They are leaders. The choice for them, even getting into the fray, is cause enough to give anyone mention; and more so when their contributions impact the lives of generations.
Yes they should brag about their achievements, because if it could have easily be done then it would have allready been done. Ya dig?
You are confusing politics with politricks. You have to separate the two items. Politics is about government administration; administration of behalf of the people, who depend on you to provide leadership above all else. Politricks is this smoke and mirrors BS, which at this point and time, being instigated by the oppostion in this town because they want power back, which bates the incumbents to talk about obvious reacords of achievement, or so they lead us to think.
Any person, who danes to step outside and put himself on the line, to provide leadership no matter how crude or sophisticated it may be, deserves a top up. Very few people would even try in earnest, and even fewer, would try it again and again after we see what has happened to all public figures.
No Sir. Praise the man and woman. Praise and give him his due. They deserve it if they impacted. Do not be an ungrateful snot, who does not have a clue about what people go through, to make sure everyone around them and under their coverage can eat and sleep comfortably. Not very many countries in the Caribbean can say that; from Haiti to Trinidad.
Get a grip and look around you.

Perhaps we have a new scholar on BI?
Sadly all our politician during the last 5 year have been found wanting...
What is more sad, Bahamians have decided to just settle...We have learnt to get use to the smell and the taste of fart and shipt.

Powerful words...
Well thought out...
I am impressed.
Truly intellectual in mind and spirit...
Now a days its rare to have any type of intellectual, thought provoking debate on BI...
Usually its just one liners...I hate one lining while claiming to be an intellectual.
I say bravo Yk2 bravo...I hope more persons take your lead and respond with sense...
educateme 03-29-07, - 10:37 PM Yes indeed the debate has been sensible in this thread!
While I agree in part with YK2, you have to admit there is still some selfish reasoning to some of them entering the political fray even if they do it over and over.
I also am not being ungrateful as I am too a public servant having been a teacher for 17 years...I must add one who went above and beyond the call of duty.
My cry is yes praise those that deserve it if they have done good...but remember they are no heroes....that is my thing. They are only doing their job like me as a teacher. I do not look for praise from anyone but my reward comes when I see my students that have made a success of their lives and they say thanks you were a good teacher.
So then thanks to all MPs and Cabinet ministers but heroes....NO!
