As we observe once again the abolition of the trance atlantic slave trade, I feel like all the countries that benefited from the slave trade should be made to pay former desendents of African slaves. All post colonial countries were slavery exist should be made to pay the africans for slavery. Someone should pay a price for this injustice that carried on for more than 300 years to black people. I feel like the British & the Americans should apologize for slavery & pay a sum amount of 300 billion dollars to be sheard equaly to all former countries were slavery existed & they were beneficiaries.

Are you serious man? The transatlantic slave trade of the 1700s is over, lets move on. Who do you expect to pay this, tax payers who know nothing about trading slaves? The only persons who should pay are those who did it and they are long gone. Then where did you get this 300billion dollar figure from? This seems so random , thanks for the late night laugh man.

Thats like saying Spain should payback for what Columbus did.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm just kind of thankful that I ended up where I ended up.

I don't think that I would want to live in what Africa has become -- as a matter of fact, I know that for sure.

I know that slavery was a horrible horrible thing and many many people suffered and died, but those that survived and transcended the experience and overcame the obstacles became a people set apart, as the Bible would say.

I personally am glad of the opportunities that the Western Hemisphere has afforded me (and my parents and grandparents for that matter).

Maybe too much time has passed for me, but I would definitely say that I have moved on over the issue.

yeah it was horrible, still is .. it still exists in the middle east, the eastern block, as well as in Africa, and probably other places such as in Asia, and elsewhere ...

Me too, considering what they have done to us in aiding and abetting our self destruction for their personal greed.

I don't think that I would want to live in what Africa has become -- as a matter of fact, I know that for sure.
Well it all depends on what part now. Fact is, the whole world was dysfunctional. The divide and rule tactics and imperial colonial power AFTER slavery ended, is why Africa is the way it is in many parts.

I know that slavery was a horrible horrible thing and many many people suffered and died, but those that survived and transcended the experience and overcame the obstacles became a people set apart, as the Bible would say.

Well you would never know what Africa has to offer. Lots of black people have stuff, it is just the divide and rule tactics that was pervasive in on the continent kept us in a bind from this global market.

Maybe too much time has passed for me, but I would definitely say that I have moved on over the issue.

I have moved on as well too. In fact, I do not even think about it. But, when I hear about people who all got reparations; even the slave owners were compensated, the American Indians and most recently the jews in the holocaust, were all compensated. Why is it when the black man asks for his, everyone has to move on from the issue?

Because they still feel they can trample on us and piss in our faces. It is not about the money, at least with me it isnt. It is about respect. And it is not about respect to be earned from you, because any sensible black man knows that there is no true respect to get; but it is the respect to know that, we can ask for it and do not have to like the lame story you say about it. But we won't get THEIR brand of respect, unless we play this game with them. This game of tolerance; BUT, for our sakes we have to be agressive, passive or overt take your pick, just once you get results. Malcolm X had the right idea, but wrong tactic. MLK had the wrong idea, but the right tactics. We need to bring both together.

To me that still is a part of the system, we blacks in the west and east need to break away from. One is the mentality that we have to be calm about our posisition. The second one is that we have to appreciate what we have now, because what they brought us from? HELLOOOOOOOOOOOO...you helped to create the problem in Africa!!!

Divide and rule was no joke. It worked. While Africa at that time, as well as the rest of the world was in turmoil; just before WWI and II. Africa and the middle east got the worst end of it after. You know why? We had natural resources to exploit. We were not in control of the new world economy and it was something we did not even know why we should be a part of, because it was not a part of our CULTURE to take advantage of a western made, capitalist and industrial system.

Which brings us to this. We have a system now where the guys who make the rules, have been and are now, still making the rules of engagement. They set the standard for the world, against the cultural inhibition and will of the rest of us. Especially against the Afrikaan way of life, which is steeped in western cultured blacks even to this day; sport, creativity, music, art and craft, socialization, community, spirituality. Even the more dark socialized tendencies like carnality and laziness. All of which are a part of us. Not to be a bad thing, because every side has a bad side as the European has his greed and hatred. So when we speak of Eurpean greed we speak of capitlaism and industrialism, allbeit to a system they created for themselves in any event. and when we speak of laziness in the black man, we speak of artistic dreamers and muscicians, and even with carnality we speak of community and spiritual togetherness. Spiritual in the braod sense of the term and not tied down to any one religion.

Even when it comes to not reading as much as they do. We do not, and it is not neccesarrily a bad thing for us, but it is detrimental to this wetsern society as everything they have is steeped in their law books and literary code. We are too steeped in our way of social life to be bothered with books the way they are; this is what also makes us more in-tune with this the care of this world and it's people than they are. It amazes me how they speak about caring for the world; CFCs and global warming, when they do not have any true spiritual attachement to it; through nature, socialization and ecos. My personal oppinion is that they will run around in circles, as we have seen with Travolta talking about global warming, with his fleet of jets. It is also amazing how they talk about the world is going to the crapper, when they are in charge and have been in charge for the last 200 years.

No Sir. They owe us. They owe us are life back. They owe us a spot to make our way of life, acceptable to our culture so we can understand what it is we need to do, in order to fit into the global scheme SO EVERYONE CAN SHARE. This is why I like globalization as it HAS TO ABSOLUTELY incorporate multi-culturalism; all for reasons I can not outline in this post. This is ironically, the one time where the western greed has painted itself into a corner globally and are forced to have to put up, or shut up.

what would retribution or repatriation do for us? would we just forget about it and say all is well now? Africa itself was a part of the slave industry ya know:
"Although many people think that most slaves were stolen or caught by slave traders, this is not the truth. Most slaves were bought by Europeans from other African people. Often, rival tribes sold into slavery members of other tribes they captured during wars."
