Activist denies Tribune's gay photos plot accusation

Denying that he has anything to do with a secret plot to produce images that will discredit the integrity of The Tribune's managing editor, John Marquis, activist Ricardo Smith said he is not interested in launching a personal attack against Mr Marquis' but was protesting against his journalistic ethics.

Mr Smith told The Nassau Guardian that he was very surprised when he read an article in The Tribune yesterday about allegations of him being part of a plot to produce sexually-compromising pictures of Mr Marquis and have them published in the media.

According to an article in yesterday's Tribune, sources have said that superimposed images with John Marquis' face on participants in a "gay orgy" were being created and prepared for the media in an attack against the managing editor. However Mr Smith said that he was upset to see that The Tribune went as far as to implicate him in such a plot, suggesting that Mr Smith was involved because he said that "he had planned to reveal compromising images of Mr Marquis from his past."

Mr Smith said that he knows of no such thing involving Mr Marquis' personal life and is not interested in knowing. However, he clarified that the information he wished to disclose will show the managing editor as a racist and as one who is in opposition to any true black government or leader in The Bahamas. Mr Marquis has denied the charges that he is a racist.

Mr Smith said that the recent photographs of former Immigration Minister Shane Gibson with the late Anna Nicole Smith which first surfaced in The Tribune, the negative articles against Foreign Affairs Minister Fred Mitchell, and the recent "unethical articles" published on veteran journalist Darrold Miller are all examples of Marquis' attempts to silence and destroy competent black leaders who are progressing in their fields.

Mr Smith also denied any allegations that he is working in collaboration with Mr Gibson to bring down The Tribune.

Thats the best they can come up with, and that is merely laughed upon these days, as its all hogwash.

.. I say that he be allowed to be a permaanent resident... with the right to teach and be editor at large.... his experience and knowedge can surely assist other young Bahamians in the profession...
