The Bahamas Human Rights Network is
sponsoring a candlelight vigil this Saturday evening, April 7th. at
7:30PM at Rawson Square.

As many of you have read recently, 10 Haitians drowned as they
approached Exuma last month. Others made it to shore safely. Today's
Freeport News reports that 5 Haitians were also drowned Thursday near
Lover's Beach, Eight Mile Rock.

US Ambassador John Rood pointed out in a recent speech that we treat
these deaths differently because they were Haitian, than if it were
others. All humans are the same though and it is time we make a
statement to that effect. We plan to come together for a brief
ceremony to remember those who perished and to call attention to the
plight of those who have made similar perilous voyages in the past.

We ask you to join the Bahamas Human Rights Network in this vigil by
bringing a candle to light in memory of those who lost their lives
and to challenge all of us in our response to the plight of those
rights must be respected. Please come along and bring your friends
also. We do not expect the meeting to go beyond 8:30.

We hope to see you there TONIGHT

It is indeed disconcerting to see that Bahamians for some reason don't see Haitians --who looks like them--as being their equal. It must always be remembered that we were once strangers in a strange land. We must not only threat Bahamians with respect and dignity but everybody that we meet along life's journey, which includes, our Haitians brothers and sisters. I stand with all who love truth and justice; and willing to uphold the basic human rights of all men. :haiti:

They are. But the illegal ones, who stow away on ships, are breaking the law.
:hammer:

So are they now. When we came here, there was no one, as the colonialist conquered it, and brought us as slaves. The moral equivalent can not be made. In addition, we have had a constitution and laws regarding it, since independence. Read it sometime.

We must not only threat Bahamians with respect and dignity but everybody that we meet along life's journey, which includes, our Haitians brothers and sisters. I stand with all who love truth and justice and willing to uphold the basic human rights of all men. :haiti:

Bullsh1it you political whore. You are trying to sure up their vote. You and your FNM friends disgust me. With that, you are aiding and abbetting the breaking of our laws, if you condone such treasonous behavior. Every sane person, who livesin this country, understands and feels the impact of illegal immigration. For you to sit there, and reject their cry for control of immigration, sounds treasonous and you should be called on it.
:hammer:
Yes we stand with Haiti as our brother in the struggle. But we do not stand with Haitian immigrants, who come into this country under illegal pretences and who have no inclination, as history has proven, to be a functioning legal member of this society.

It makes me sick to see you whore for votes, with the Haitian community. Just like they sent @Jordine@ to Bain and Grants town, to help sure up the Haitian Bahamian vote. I find that a cheap display of political whoremongery.

Amen, pharoah, you are right, we shouldn't only treat Bahamians with respect but our visitors as well, it's very hard losing someone you love but to lose them in such a tragedy event, it's a load that every human must have some empathy towards....

Empathy and ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION are two separate things, and one does not have the equivalency of the other.

You know something. Thank you for reminding me what this thread is about. I got carried away.

Shows you how touchy it gets, when I see political whoremongers, exploit these people for cheap tricks; pharoah and your boys.

Just because you do not like Bahamianpride, does not mean that she is not worthy to post what she feels is important. Things like this should pul us together and not apart. Watsayu, you have to ease up on the personality.

Yea. Well let's talk about the issues. How the FNM is running a 27 year old Haitian man, to sure up the votes in a heavily populated Haitian Bahamian town!
:hammer:

They are so shallow...that they could not even find an elder Bahamian-Haitian, because they too know what it is. Just political BS and exploitation.

Repsectable?
I find that offensive and sickening!

It's not political. Who in their right mind would attempt to stop another Bahamian citizen, regardless of their political affliliation or ancestry from running in an election that they fully qualify for?
