Viveca Watkins and I grew up in Chippingham together. She is the daughter of Errington and Pearl Watkins. she has many sisters and I think two brothers.
A devote Catholic she grew up in St. Joseph church where the entire neighborhood children had to attend 7.00 a.m. mass with Father Marcian Peters.
Vanessa, Poincetta Madronna, Monty Errington Jr. and the others all attended those morning masses and if it was lent we went back to evening service.
In January of this year I invited her to share her humour with my senior citizens in The Kenp Road Urban Renewal Seniors Meeting. Of course since I was like a younger sister to her she came and had the entire group in stitches and tears.
It was then that she shared her passion for a violence free Bahamas and had promised to assist us as much as she can even though she was not in our Urban Area.
Her son was the apple of her eyes. with his rich voice serenading at weddings and funerals he was making a name for himself in the art world.
She will be missed for her sensible advice and keen insight.
To her parents son and brothers and sisters..........What can I say.???.......she is gone too soon.
May God grant her eternal rest and may His love and strength be your comfort during the time ahead.
My Condolences and Love to you all.
To Fatback and the staff of More 94 FM Stay strong and be encouraged.

yeah she goes to my church...my condolences goes out to her and her family. i hope it wasnt because of her weight. and i just saw the commercial with her on zns about healthy eating habits. what tragic irony!

The news of Vivica's death has come as a shock, her zest for life itself resonated between she and fatback on their morning shoe on More 94 FM. In the mist of celebrating Jesus's resurrection we now have to face the death of yet another artistic icon, a rare jewel within our Bahamian culture.

My deepest sympathy to Ms. Watkins' family and friends.
May she rest in peace:angel:

Wow, we have lost so many cultural and artisitic giants in the past year. First Kayla Lockhart Edwards, then Winston Saunders, then Calvin Lockhart, and now Vivica Watkins. I hope that we can find people enthusiastic about Bahamian art and culture to continue on with what these people were doing.

The loss of a cultural icon always rips a hole in a community's psyche.

What's important though is how we come together afterwards to fill that gap - not to replace the loss (some persons never can be replaced), but to continue showing the ultimate respect of the work and efforts of that person.

I heard on the radio on the vivica and fat back show, that she was sick and could not come into work. I thought it was just a cold or flu-type symptom. I did not know that she would die, or was near death's door.

Sad indeed. She was a Bahamian icon and symbol of national pride. Her funeral will be attended by many.

It should all give us pause to reflect on how thin a thread it is that holds body and soul together. She was fifty-five, so I heard on the radio. Fifty-five is no old age these days!!! But who of us knows the day or the hour?

We should all live our lives to the fullest - as she did.
