View Full Version : Blood! The gift of Life.
Last week my sister was in the hospital. She required blood. Unfortunately, two traffic accidents had depleted the supply. (How low must the supply be if two cleans then out?) I rushed down to donate my blood but alas due to medications I am taking I was disqualified. Can you imagine how bad I felt about that!
I went home and put the word out. Thirty people, from all conditions of life, responded. Unfortunately, most were rejected due to medical reasons but ten could give. That was ten pints! More than she needed. She is doing well now and has returned home. How do I thank those that gave, or at least tried too?
I would ask those reading this to think about becoming a donor. Blood is always needed and is in short supply. Go to PMH or Doctors and find out if you are able to give. If you don't want to give now leave them your name and number so they can call you in times of need. You have the gift of life coursing through your veins. How often in our life times can we give life to someone else?
It may well turn out that my sister will need more blood. If so I will post on this site a request and I encourage others to post a request for their loved ones in need. I hope we can get at least ten more to give - blood is always needed.
The gift lies in your hands. Give!
i have a rare blood type apparently, PM me what her type is ..
glad that she is okay for now .. hope it all goes well.

michali 04-10-07, - 04:21 PM I have given blood on several occasions, but since being diagnosed with lymphoma, I can no longer give. But I would encourage all those who can, to give. It is a painless procedure, you feel fine physically afterwards and emotionally...you feel wonderful, knowing you may have saved a life!
I dont know if Ill goto Doctors to give it though .. i was there recently and the nurse took their glove off when i was having the drip attached and they were taking blood .. blood was going all over the place including the nurses bare hands .. ive had blood taken at Kelso's before though and they knew what they were doing.

Indeed you do! Indeed you do! I used to give blood often. I am only saddened that I can't give anymore so I must leave it up to others. All I can do is encourage others now.

just to let you know, nurses DO NOT, work in the Blood Bank at Doctors Hospital, the person that did that was most likely a phlebotomist, not a nurse.
