fast food from other countries has become a common part of the Bahamian diet.

(a) what evidence can be found to support this statement?

(b) Identify and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this trend

i think that these questions should be focused on more than anything in our little Bahamaland right now. there are alot of fast food restaurants coming about knocking out the peas n rice and boil fish which i hate but as a Bahamian i think that out of these two questions we can fully get a full view of how every bahamian feels about fast food

It's called Americanization. :D

The advantages are that Bahamians can make a very good profit from overseas franchises and more jobs are created.
Disadvantages are: Obesity, Heart Diseases and other health problems. But if we blame Burger King, KFC and Mcdonals for the health problems in our society it would be like the pot calling the kettle black. We were eating unhealthy foods before these fast food outlets arrived here.

I think that the worst affect that it can have on the Bahamas is a cultural one. But I doubt that would ever happen.

there are just as many problems with bahamian food as there are with american fast food. 'Bahamian' food is extremely unhealthy. I have not seen a healthy Bahamian meal yet.

Not too mention that bahamians consume more fried chicken than burgers even when they do buy out as fast food restuarants.A fter a certain hour at night you can only buy fried food, there is not such a thing as a sandwich or a real healthy meal, we are left with chicken shacks, even Esso's on the Run, sells tons of fried chicken now (and then some greasy pizza).

Bahamians love fried chicken, I dont see why anyone would spend money on another franchise if they were interested in making alot of money, fried chicken is the way to go in the Bahamas :-))

Personally Id like to see some baked chicken, even if it is a franchise. The idea of fast food, is that it is already cooked, so you order and eat fast, instead of having to cook it yourself or wait an hour in a restaurant. So really, not all fast food is unhealthy, once it is cooked and kept in hot trays. just there is really nowhere here that sells healthy fast food.

Though, News Cafe has some ready prepared food, like sheppards pie, etc, that is, well healthier than others, but it is not cheap likea Whopper Junior Meal! :-0 Unfortunately alot of us also have to choose based on the wieight in our pockets.

one thing I do notice though, is at a local business I go to, every tome i go there at lunch time, EVERYONE is eating either frid chicken, burger king, or KFC, I have not actively seen them yet eating a sandwhich for lunch! And this goes for many other businesses I visit regularly, during lunch times.

Ofcourse, Burger King now and KFC being the tow favourites, but if they didnt buy from them, they'd just go to the local chicken shack anyway!
