The Coalition of Pastors for Transparency on Monday vehemently refuted claims made by Rev. Frederick McAlpine on Saturday that its questionnaire issued to all candidates in the upcoming general election was designed to bring homosexuals in the governing party out of the closet.

12play 04-24-07, - 06:18 AM All politicians should be exposed where they exhibit hypocrisy or offend public sensibilities. People who engage in alternative lifestyles do not share our common values. The only thing that they have on the brain is their lifestyle..if you do not believe me check the topics that they post on or about. They must be beaten back and put back in their hole from whence they came. I believe that homosexuality is genetic.People who engage in homosexual acts for advancement or kicks, or because they man/woman lef' them are not homosexual. It is about integrity and the PLP do not have any from top to bottom. On May 02, 2007,vote early and often to rid ourselves of morally challenged, soft men, and their facilitators.

If the FNM loses on May 2nd it will be because of the stupid things that people like you and your leader say...

Give me an example of the stupid things the FNM leader has said.

garnelleo 04-24-07, - 09:02 AM Distasteful in my opinion. Unless you can give evidence of such allegations, I would suggest not implying or outright labeling anyone as homosexual.

and Galanis too, I would say.
How does Galanis get away with 'HI fired dirty Brent' comments when he was implicated in an int'l money laudering system himself?
Bahamasinmyheart 04-24-07, - 10:40 AM You know I listened to McAlpine's speech on Saturday and I didn't hear him call no names, he didn't use any derogatory names, the speech was clear to the point a bit enticing (it's elections remember) and that's it.
and now??

How is it distasteful to call a man a homosexual if he is a homosexual? He can simply deny it and move on or acknowledge it and move on. Homosexuals don't believe their lifestyle is distasteful anymore so than heterosexual persons believes their lifestyle is distasteful. The rumor that Fred Mitchel is gay has been around for more than 25 years...His brother went to SAC with me and we use to tease him about it often. When Fred came to my house with his young male friend campaigning, the rumours were flying then too, but guess what....I still voted for him because he seemed the right man for the job. I don't think bahamians care too much about someones sexuality as much as we would like to believe. We all have a fair idea who in public life is gay but we accept it and move on.

McAlpine has an opinion like everybody else, he's entitled to it. Some of us dont agree with it nevertheless it's his opinion. I dont hear all of this outcry from some of you when the shoe is on the other foot. Some of us really need to stop being hypocrites!
Sunnyjohn 04-24-07, - 11:15 AM Yes, Rev McAlpine is entitled to his opinion. So is every member of the clergy, civil servant, police officer, (teacher, nurse, fisherman, bus driver, straw vendor, etc...)
They SHOULD encourage Bahamians to take an active role in the political process. The future of the nation depends on engaged participants.
Rev McAlpine, Bishop Ellis and other members of the clergy must remember though that their job is to minister to both sides.
Say what you will, but do it tactfully.
P.S. I wish the big boys would debate the issues (trade, immigration, industrial development, healthcare, education) and stop with the gossip mongering.

You chasing windmills, truthseeker?
I took GL's post to mean that he thought the ControversyTV bit was distasteful. I thought is wasn't one of their best either.
You raise interesting points regardless. The 'questionaire pastors' seem to have used words like 'break-wrist' which isn't especially welcoming. There are many who do care about orientation. I don't know why; maybe it's because the Bahamas likes the sip-sip and that's good fodder to work with.
