View Full Version : where did this flu come from?
lukku cairi 08-29-04, - 12:55 PM Here is a little story. I DO NOT recommend you try this. I just want to show you how medicine's ideas change. My Grandfather, in his youth suffered from cold after cold, flu after flu. In his day there were major epidemics of flu that killed thousands. When he was fourteen, his doctor recommended he take up smoking as a way to kill the cold and flu germs!!!!!!! :what: He never had another cold (or so he said) and died when he was ninety-one. (Imagine how long he might have lasted if he did not smoke!)
CG, a guy I dated a few years ago was diagnosed with chronic pneumonia when he was 9 and suffered with it til he was 14, when he took up smoking. Something in the cigarette smoke killed the spot on his lung that had been acting up, and he's been healthy ever since (though he's struggled with quitting smoking!)
Weird, huh? Today they'd probably put him on a nebulizer and get the same effect though, without the addiction probs.

How strange it is that yesteday's miracle is today's poison, and the other way around! One of the strangest stories comes from the Middle Ages in England. The perfectly healthy, King asked his physician if he was to bathe more often would it extend his life time.
"How often do you bathe?" Asked the Doctor.
"Twice a year." Answered the King.
"Well," said the Doctor, "you can extend that to three time a year but anymore than that could well be dangerous to one health. I, myself, bathe but once a year - when the weather gets warm."
It is no wonder that they were so into incense and perfumes!
P.S. Remind me to tell you the story of the "Love Apples." Sometimes know as "Wolf Apples." O.K. you got time? I'll tell you now.
There was a time when Doctors railed against Love Apples. This was when the fruit first made its way from South America. "Medical Science has proven that should a person eat two or more in a life time they will be driven insane! If one is not driven insane. at once, one can suffer from an unquenchable sexual drive that can lead to insanity as well." So was the claim of the Medical Profession.
Today, Love Apples are eaten every day. They are said to be very good for Prostate health in men. People seek them out. Many people grow then in their gardens every year. By the way, the Love Apple, as it was called then is now know as the.....tomato. I eat them often. I am not insane. As for the other part of the ancient Doctor's warning, no comment!!!!!! ;)

The flu comes from USA Black Ops spraying Aluminum and Barium in the atmosphere over Nassau.
The airplanes criss cross the sky daily and spray these chemicals and bacteria in the atmosphere. Some tourist report skin rashes, sinus infections, and lung complictions. Nobody looks up in the sky anymore and notice these airplanes spraying these chemicals. Type in CHEMTRAIL in any search engine for more information on this deadly plot. The Bahamas government is allowing this spraying by the USA.

Ernie 07-13-05, - 05:12 PM QUOTE=CG] Sickness is every where and before people started going to other countries there was illness. Every country had its own sickness so do not blame this on AMERICANS OR HAITIANS yes some may carry strains of illnes that are stronger than the old , but WHAT GOD WANTS TO HAPPEN WILL HAPPEN NO MATTER WHAT MEDICINE YOU TAKE. GOD DOES EVERYTHING FOR A REASON. So how can you justify what you are saying that everyone else in the world are making bahamains sick ? Show me what your reason and your proof. You putting down others to justify what you saying. So what do what to happen everyone has stay in their own countries. Your saying that bahamains do not get sick until they go to some else county.
i understand your concern but listen to what you saying.
What about Bahamians :bahamas: going to other countries and picking up the flu and bringing it back? It is very difficult for a country to keep out these new virulent strains of the flu virus. Closing all the borders and not allowing any one in or out is the only solution but that would be preposterous!
Viruses are evolving and mutating at an alarming speed (Darwin was right) and they are doing something that is not new but is becoming more common, they are jumping from one species to another - the swine flu, the bird flu and Green Monkey Virus all mutated quickly and passed easily to humans. (Green Monkey mutated into the AIDS virus.)
All we can do is eat right, keep your immune system working right and don't take an Anti-biotic unless you REALLY need it. We have abused the good old anti-biotic to the point that many virus have adapted to it and it is becoming useless. :fly:
What we really need to worry about is a Pandemic. That is an epidemic that sweeps the world killing millions! It has happened before, it will happen again and there is little or nothing we can do about it. Just to name two of them - In 1347 The Black Death. 25 million people died in five years that is one-third of Europe's people. The Great Spanish Flu of 1918. 40 million died in that one.
Take your vitamins folks! The Biological time bomb is ticking :sparky:

Sorry, but it was hard to sort out what you said. I think your quote was this:
"Sickness is every where and before people started going to other countries there was illness. If I am correct I will address your comments one at a time.
"Sickness is every where and before people started going to other countries there was illness.
This is true.
Every country had its own sickness so do not blame this on AMERICANS OR HAITIANS
I don't think I did!!!
yes some may carry strains of illnes that are stronger than the old
True.
WHAT GOD WANTS TO HAPPEN WILL HAPPEN NO MATTER WHAT MEDICINE YOU TAKE.
Not so! There are illness that respond to medicines that were not available even a few years ago. If you believe God sends illness, which I do not, it would be a poor God indeed that allows such suffering.
GOD DOES EVERYTHING FOR A REASON.
That is doubtful. Many things happen for no reason at all.
So how can you justify what you are saying that everyone else in the world are making bahamains sick ?
Never said that at all. What I was trying to say is that disease travels quicker now due to the ease of travel.
Show me what your reason and your proof.
I don't know what you mean!!
You putting down others to justify what you saying.
Not at all! Illness and disease is common to all mankind. To be human is to be subject to illness.
[/QUOTE]
So what do what to happen everyone has stay in their own countries.
Of course not! Mankinds history has shown him to be a migratory creature.
Your saying that bahamains do not get sick until they go to some else county."
Never said that!!! Man! Do you ever get hold of the wrong end of the stick!!!! :) It just goes to show that the printed word is subject to the wildest interpretations!!
garnelleo 07-22-05, - 10:25 PM Its funny tho, no one in our household has had a flu in years. Minor colds maybe onece a year but nothing more than that.
However I know its important to take a multivitamin every day. Any over the counter one such as Centrum, or One A day should be fine. I take a higher potency one for males called Ultra Vita Man since I am trying to put on muscle at the gym.
Vitamins are excellent and they really prevent, treat and cure many ailments. Plus see if you can get some EFA's along with those vitamins. EFAs or Essential Fatty Acids are good fats that do tons of stuff for your body. (for more info check this out EFA's (http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/efa.html)).
And to see the benefits of vitamins check out this link. Vitamins (http://www.wholehealthmd.com/hc/resourceareas_comparison/1,1573,,00.html)
YorickBrown 07-26-05, - 11:07 AM Don't forget ya daily dose of bush tea.
Granny dem had the secrets to long, healthy lives on lock. Unfortunately our people don't check for the old time remedies anymore and fill their bodies up with fast food and other junk. No one can reasonably expect to stay healthy on empty calories from food with a near-zero nutritional value. Then again, younger families with both parents working don't have the "time" to cook up nutritional food anymore (if they can cook at all, that is  )
No wonder everyone getting more "sickly" and dropping down at such early ages.
garnelleo 07-26-05, - 02:38 PM Yep, we drink bush tea every morning. My dad swears by it and attributes that to why he rarely gets sick.
And speaking about empty calories, most persons in this country have a bad diet, filled with fats, sugar, and too much starches. Then chips and soda's which most kids consider breakfast aint too healthy either.

You are very right. I am doing an article on my memories as a child. Here is a passage that relates to Bush Medicine.
"...People believed, and used "Bush Medicine." My Mother who had spent much of her youth in India respected folk remedies. When one of us got sick the first person she consulted was the maid. She would go and get the appropriate plant then check the moon! It was important to take some of those things when the moon was "right." If the moon was good, she would boil it up, and nine times out of ten we were as right as rain in no time."
We also had Bush Medicine as a preventive measure, like your Dad and you do, you took it, sick or not, just in case!
Great Demos 07-26-05, - 05:30 PM We have to be careful with these bush teas. If you all are referring to bajarene (is that spelled right?) or aloes, fine.
I recall a former registered nurse spoke about her experience on a seminar in Jamaica where they experimented on some of these bushes. According to her they found that aloes was quite OK, but serasee contained a certain amount of poison and should not be taken too often! (Don't think bajarene was checked out).
Another local bush expert stated on the radio some years ago that all these bush medicines have a certain amount of poison and to help reduce the poison we should always use them with lime or lemon juice.
Some years ago I read in a local paper (I think it was the Punch) that former Prime Minister Sir Lynden at one time suffered from some kind of internal polyps, which was attributed to his constant use of bush tea.
It was also reported some years ago that doctors in England were puzzled as to why many of the Caribbean people living there were having many internal polyps -- they also attributed this to the use of too much bush tea and advised moderation.
garnelleo 07-26-05, - 05:40 PM now ur makin me scared. Alhough he does squeeze a bit of lime inside of it.
GD its probably only da bush in nassau, they likes to pee in da bush alot yah know
YorickBrown 07-26-05, - 07:10 PM Great Demos is correct, to a degree - Moderation is essential with certain teas. Cerassee in particular does contain a mild poison, which in the course of being flushed out of the system takes other toxins with it.
Not to worry Garnel, there are numerous local plants that serve multiple beneficial purposes when made into teas, and many of them are mild enough for daily use. Modern medical studies often have discouraged persons from using the free and effective remedies which were passed on from generation to generation, only to end up: retracting their statements years later, processing the chemicals from these very same plants, adding a few chemical preservatives of their own (producing unnecessary side effects), slapping a label on it for resale and making a big profit for something that can be found in nature for free. *Sigh* Capitalism at its best.
Here are some local plants and their teas:
ICED ALOE (Vera) TEA
Remove the skin of the aloe leaf and remove the gel. Put gel into bottle of purified water. Refrigerate and drink when desired. Used to 'cool' the blood and help to purify it

Used by persons suffering from diabetes.
SHEPHERD'S NEEDLE (Bidens Pilosa) TEA

YorickBrown 07-26-05, - 07:12 PM GD its probably only da bush in nassau, they likes to pee in da bush alot yah know
ya een lie' bout dat. Das da truth! :o
Doctors have always held bush medicine in some suspicion. Why? Because they can't write a prescription for it.
All medicines, bush or other wise need to be taken with caution because most of them contain some kind of poison, that is how they work.
As for them being dangerous - so, no one had died, or got sick, or got bad reactions from a Doctor's prescription?
Both medicines have they dangers and their place.
