The SSD reads 300 percent faster (53MB/s) and writes 150 percent quicker (28MB/s) than normal hard drives. As a result, multiple application programs can operate simultaneously and large volumes of data can be edited and reproduced more efficiently.

The Microsoft Windows XP operating system will boot up 25-50% faster on the SSD than on other drives—good news for those in a hurry. Moreover, the typical 1.8-inch hard disk drive weighs around 50 grams; whereas the SSD is 20 to 30 grams lighter, depending on the package type.

The typical notebook PC will generate around 30dB of operating noise, while the Q30-SSD will operate in complete silence.

wow! Very cool. I can see lots of applications for this technology. Onboard ships, computer HDDs get whacked by vibration. With no moving parts that is negated.

The shock resistance, 1500G's will certainly outlive the notebook its installed in too! LCD screens hinges break if you type too hard sometimes!

The price is a killer though. $488 + S&H for 32gig drive? I'll wait a few more years for the price to get reasonable. Remember when 128K USB flash drives were like $100? Now I don't think you can buy that small a flash drive!

Totally off topic: Reading the bloggyboyz stuff, I saw that Pegasus in Freeport is shut down after only a few months of operation. Anyone confirm or debunk this?

Their price is dropping quick though .. also see this ..

4GB for $299 .. but hey XP typically only needs 2GB .. data space will be an issue, but guess you could use an Raptor 10,000 rpm in an external case for that .. or go for the 64GB when it comes out and use multiple drives ... wait till the price drops though!!

But with an external drive you bump your head against a USB or Firewire bus threshold, don't you? Plus it takes a relatively fragile device (HDD) and subjects it to the abuse of being a peripheral. 18 months from now, these will be the shiznit for elderly processors like mine. Hopefully 18 months from now this thing will be on the storage shelf or garbage can!

awesome stuff price needs to keep dropping

Also, prices are falling fast on processors. Intel's quadcore runs for 500, Athlon x2 3600+ dual core for $70.

That Core 2 Duo i bought the other day for a client, the 2.67 at $560, now its $360!!!!!!! Man and the basic Quad Core yeah it dropped to the mid $500s, but not worth touching that, only quad core worth it is the Xtreme version which is a real quad core, still around $900. Most of the Core 2s are still pretty slow though, for regular apps. Just get a Pentium 4 3.2 or a Pentium D 3.4/3.6 for now .. id wait till the Pentiums are totaly gone and the Core 2's are a little faster, or the Quad core is cheaper. Spend more on memory, and one of these SSD suckers .. :D

Oh yeah then there is this one!

Add any normal DDR Ram, up to 4GB . yes small size but the darn speed .. 0.1ms read seek time!

Well, at school they replaced the 2.8 ghz p4 with E6300s and they fly.

Also why did you get the 2.66 ghz Version???????? You could have gotten the e6600 which runs at 2.4 ghz and is $200 chaper (and is one of the most coveted Core2 Duos as a result). The 200 dollar premium in price is in no way proportional to the 266mhz increase in clock speed.

They may have changed other hardware also .. and the P4 they had was probably older with a smaller cache etc. The 3.2 P4 Flies normally. Also this client had a P4 3.6 to begin with, there is just no difference in speed IMO.

She had the money and wanted the more expensive one is all.
