Ok. Let me speak on this. This is in regards to these "polls" that people like Jeff Lloyd, seems to put his faith in. "Text in". LOL....Hopefully I will clear up serious positions, and put some things to some sort of perspective.

First off, the text system is a good trick and making sure people can not vote in twice, is a very good tech device. However, you have to consider the demographic and who are responding to you.
:gi:
Look, you have to at least look at your own poll in the right way; more94fm poll.
1. The people who actually listen to more94fm in the day.

2. Who you appeal to and where they come from.

3. The fact that more94, on the times that are not on your show, is mostly a young folks station; always has been. So the people who text in "on the off hourse of your show" are probably young folks.

4. The people who have the time, and the ability to listen to you and text, are people who have time on their hands; unemployed and young folks. Young folks are always liberal and like immediate change, and the unemployed are obviously upset because they are left out of the system. This is during your air-time. The unemployed may not have the money, but the young people sure do have the time.

5. The younger folks, have access to tech savvy ON AVERAGE more than folks who are a bit older. With that, saying YOU are able to use your text, and care about using your text message to send it to a poll are separate issues. I know a computer analyst, who could not work her way around a simple nokia. LOL...

So here we have it, we have the demographic you serve answering to a poll which only they care about. Talk about preaching to the choir. I do think the polling has promise, if it is done correctly. This is comming from a man, who has done a few polls in the past. Alot of people have given the young vote, at least 60-65% of them to the FNM, I think it is much closer than that, but at least I have said that. But, do they vote and will they come all out in force to vote and will their ballots be good. We are talking about first time voters.

I think that polling and opinion dynamics serve a purpose, but it has to be done right in order for you to brag about them. With that, I heard Mrs Moxey-Ingraham talk about polling, supposedly serious polling, and then could not speak to what type they are doing at the FNM which they are basing their campaign on, and in the heat of it mentioned the more94fm as a true indicator. LOL..
I expected nothing more from her quite frankly.

I just want to help if anything. It can be done proper, and it can be done in a way where it is beyond reproach.

Just had to respond to a remark that was made on his show today, talking about anyone who had issue with his poll, was "LYING". LOL....

Take my opinion as you wish. I just want a chance to get at the truth, and speak the total truth for EVERYONES benefit. So when I say that FNMs are in for a possible shock, I say that with a reason. Because if they guage their positions, based on things like this and on talk and rallies, they have yet to understand how politics is performed.

My GSM phone doesnt let me send Text Messages, I can receive though, I imagine you have to pay for that service?

Also, yep, they can create and send text messages, but most have issues with QWERTY keyboards .. I rarely actually look at the keyboard anymore, and actually I could easily keep up with speed typers now. Course i go back to the typewriter days too .. well that wasnt that long ago actually; plus when you type thousands of lines of code you gotta be fast, or you get fast quick. I'm like you though, speed wise on the cell, but honestly it is slow either way as far as I can tell cause you have to wait for the cell anyway, same with the wifi phones, have to wait for the next letter to become available, the delay is there for a reason :)

yea it was mandatory for us to take typing in high school. I got a certificate for 45 words per minute, which ain't that fast. but I only do 2 finger typing now cause I'm lazy. :) yes you have to pay for the texting service.

This week's hot topic:
Text messaging cool or a waste of time?
In the latest Make the Call discussion, we asked our members if text messaging is cool or just a waste of time? Young or old, many of our members have come to the discussion to speak their minds and told us what they think.
"Extremely tactile tool"
"The answer to the question is rather subjective. It depends on WHAT u want to communicate. For eg, if u wanna describe ur latest vacation, it only makes sense to call up the person. However, if u have to give a 'message' or have a direct question, i guess text-msg is a nice tool. Following are the advantages..." (Read more)

"Dumb or dumber"
"Text messaging, except for a few situations where it is an essential mode of communication (hearing impaired users, sending addresses and data that are too complex to read over a phone,) is dumb. I think kids love it because they can text "UR2Kewl" to one another in class, but for most users it's another service..." (Read more)

"Yet another way for telcos to pull a few more pennies."
"Let's see now: Keypad on cell phones suck. Carriers charge a premium to send. Carriers charge to receive. Screen size on cell phones suck. Eats up minutes of connection time. I could continue on ad nauseum but why waste the keystrokes (grin)? My opinion is the service is a rather cumbersome and very..." (Read more)

"The Text Age--Get with the times"
"I feel that most of these comments posted here are by people too lazy or unaware to usefully utilize text messaging service. My cell phone has a full qwerty and I can honestly say I end up texting about as much as I actually call people. I receive about as many texts..." (Read more)

"Cool, fantastic and definitely useful - why?"
"Well, as most people don't realize that text messaging is mainly used by deaf people including myself, it's one of the greatest way of communicating to anybody (both deaf and hearing). You can't make devices for 'perfect people' because there are a lot of people out there who have disabilities..." (Read more)

the one that said they have a full QWERTY doesnt seem to know what a QWERTY keyboard really is LOL . even a laptop typically doesnt have a QWERTY keyboard, even some keyboards for Desktops arent QWERTY keyboards. Besides the cells ive always had just looked like a regular phone keypad .. maybe I just see the need to spend the money on something else like a better Computer, Food, Gas, and perhaps to pay the actual phone bill, instead of a $500 cellphone :)

Like the Pocket PC, they all have their place, but in reality they are still so limited that entertainment is about all these are good for.

PS. I have 2 pocket PCs sitting in a box here, I just got so tired of their limitations, including the size and even moreso the battery. I'll probably pack up the Wifi Phone soon also, as its simply easier to slap a quarter in a payphone then keep the thing charged! Honestly I would rather direct my time to something more constructive. :)

There you have it. The two biggest techies on this site; Bahamawave and Rory, admit to not even considering texting. There you have it.

In addition, for us to know historically that the vote in every election in each constituency, has been decided by no more than 2-3%. Then by the more94fms poll, where the FNM received almost 80% of the vote, has to be completely wrong if in fact even worth considering.

We know for a fact that the case is that this town, and even FNMs say this, is split down the middle with the hard liners and the swing voters, carry about at leat 2-3%. How can the FNM in the more94fm poll, be ahead by almost 20-30% of the total votes cast? You have to ask yourself, WHY is that contrary to the somewhat normal behavior and then say to yourself, how do we correct that to give a more representative account.

yea man all I need is a desktop PC. I don't use any of the features on my cellphone. pocket PC's, and BlackBerry's are just too overboard for me. going away from the PC gives me a break. why would I want to take it with me?
if someone sends me an email they can wait till I get back home to my desktop.

Exactly :)

And also, as to laptops, I only see the need for them for people that travel ALOT (or use them for specific mobile related work), as going on a 7 day vacation once or twice a year, they should be able to spend a few days away from their PC without loosing any hair .. i managed it just fine ;)
