In my opinion the Bamamas is in no way financially stable to assist in the well being of Haiti.

You may well be right! No doubt the U.S. will pickup the tab for that. What is needed from us, the Caribbean community, to pull together to assist Haiti in any way we can. Any ideas?

Caricom over the years to me has not proved that it can help itself much rather Haiti. I don't think that Caricom can do anything else. the only thing we could have done was to try and persuade opposition and government leaders to make amends. But that's falling apart. We all have no money or enough trained millitary forces to send as peacekeeping forces. We can only leave it to the UN (because the US dosen't seem too serious) and prepare our coast guards and defence forces for a civil war and "mass exodus" should it arise.

don't look to the usa for any real assistance ... their economic embargo on haitian imports and exports remains in place some twenty years after it was first imposed.

i remember very well mailing packages of disposable diapers to a girlfriend of mine in petionville when she was raising her babies, because importing them was illegal. i had to be sure to mail them from nassau, too.

I am sure that the U.S. will lift any embargos that might still be in place, once it is sure Haiti is in "good hands."
