Sunnyjohn 04-28-07, - 10:04 AM So is "Cassius and the BDM issue" all about the money?
Is it the "They don't have any so they can't do anything for we" claim?
Just wondering.

I hope that Mr. Stuart can win his seat, as he appears to have potential and the making of a good representative.

This board could have been BDM 'controlled' if he had participated instead of dumping a press release on the site and going away!
I hope he manages to wedge himself into a seat because he could be a whole new dynamic in the future of the country.
Good luck to him, and we want to see him get active on BI after the election! Newry, let him know that from me please!

He should have stuck around. The lion's share of the Bahamian populace is under 30. Tell them your message. Technology is the way to do it.

That will be the BDM problem. If they try to use the conventional methods to get votes, they will be stymied by the two bigger dogs in the park.
Cassius could have run 41 candidates with popular support if he had used BI as an instrument for campaigning BEFORE any campaign was started. He let an incredible opportunity slip right by him.

Cassius Stuart is someone I have been watching politically for a few years now. I must admit though that I am a bit disappointed so far because I feel that he could have done more and made himself and his party a formidable force in this election if he had stayed consistent in addressing the issues and making himself more visible. Like another poster said, he could have had 41 candidates running this time around.
When he first came on the scene he brought to mind a young Lynden Pindling, fighting for the people, representing real issues, I was rootin for him. But he disappeared from the scene for too long and he was more off than on. Most of his recent actions (handcuff to the mace) only amounted to political grand standing imo.
That said, I wish him and his party well. Maybe they can start working on 2012 by coming to Grand Bahama and forming some affiliations here and in the other family islands. Politics in the Bahamas is hard work. All the people, even the ones in Hog Cay and Water Cay, need to see you. It takes commitment, courage, money and most of all consistency.

Perhaps at one point in time he had the full 41 candidates, however, like the CDR members Neymour and Maynard...they wanted to be absorbed by the big parties...

I am afraid he will have to mix with or join the bigger parties if he and his party is to win a seat and eventually the governance of the country. History is a hard mistress...

Well it is now evident that the Bahamian populace is not yet willing to accept a third party as we are entrenched in the two party system. The BDM secured a sum total of just under 800 votes between its 16 candidates, resulting in the forfeitures of deposit for all candidates inclusive of its well intentioned leader.
Maybe next time. Don't give up!
