Lots of folks are talking about the situation in Freeport. Many have said that the Port Authority has outlived it's usefulness and breathed it's last breathe. The can't seem to decide on small issues. Some have ssid that they have essentially voided the agreement with recent failures.
There is even a move in the GB buisness community to have the Agreement voided. The owners will be paid a fair market price for the company, and the shares will be sold on the BSIX.
What do you guys think?

The Grand Bahama Port Authority has been in the past very sweet for GB and in recent times more bitter than sweet.
The Hawksbill Creek Agreement is exactly that, AN AGREEMENT. Meaning that it contains checks and balances that ensure that the GBPA fulfill their obligation under the agreement.
My thing is, why have successive governments allowed the GBPA to operate on such a long leash for so long? Why haven't the terms of the agreement been enforced? The late Edward St. George was good for Grand Bahama. He ran the GBPA with a sensitivity for the way their policies and practices affected the wider community (but don't get it twisted, he did make alot of money in the process). Since his death, this has not been the case.
When three Bahamian executives were separated from the GBPA last year the government said nothing, despite the public outcry in Grand Bahama. Since then things appeared to get worse.
Here's my concern. Why hasn't the government played a more involved role in the dealings of the GBPA. I know its a private commpany, but it also has been given quasi governmental functions under the agreement. If those functions are being negleced, or if the GBPA is not holding their end of the bargain, why is the government consistently quiet?
And at the same time, they have their foot people going all over GB and the rest of the Bahamas telling people that Grand Bahama is in such a poor state because of the GBPA. If they believe this to be true, then why hasn't the government done something about it?
