View Full Version : Movie: The Passion of the Christ CG 03-06-04, - 09:38 PM yes man!! you know the dukes of hazzards will probably be the next ones :p You could be right! Quantum Leap 03-10-04, - 04:28 PM I went to see the film and it was very good. The only thing I did not like about it was that the ending sucked. I guess Mel Gibson wanted to focus more on the suffering of Jesus Christ. Anyhow, everyone that I spoke with said that they cried and have an appreciation for the love of God. That's good, but all this movie seems to do it make people emotional. After the crying, we eventually go back to our daily routines (whether it be good or bad.) CG 03-10-04, - 05:29 PM ........but all this movie seems to do it make people emotional. After the crying, we eventually go back to our daily routines (whether it be good or bad.) Sad, but you might be right. Yet, there are bound to be some change lives because of it. Also, the Christian will have a greater grasp of the sufferings of Christ. Delroy 03-10-04, - 11:06 PM I saw the movie for the first time last night. It was very accurate in displaying the truth about violence of sin and how Christ stood in front for all mankind. Those were my lashes that He took on His body and that was my cross that He carried. Those nails were meant for my hands and those thorns for my head. This movie will make allot of people (even some Christians) understand how serious God takes sin. Vicky 03-19-04, - 09:53 AM My wife and I went to see the Passion. I must say the movie achieves its purpose. Mel Gibson and group bank accounts are getting fatter. Now as to the content of the movie, it is good very good just a few thoughts go through my mind. 1 No human can take a beating like that loose so much blood and still be able to lift a cross much less carry it as shown in the movie. 2 The part where the blood flows through the nail hole is very wrong. If that were the case boats would sink. 3 I will need to read up and see if the cross was turned over to bend the nails. 4 An off the wall look at the movie. Here you see a man who did nothing but speak his truth his understanding as to how we should treat each other, a way of life that is so kind gentle and caring for all humans. He is arrested by the religious authorities tried in a makeshift court and sentenced to death. In the name of their God. Because if people lived by the few simple rules he taught these religious authorities would have no power, authority, or good paying jobs. Now in their country the religious authorities had no power to put someone to death. So they took this man to the state authorities that could. This state authority found no reason to kill this man but they feared an uprising caused by the religious leaders. So state authority said to the religious authority go ahead and kill him yourself I will look the other way. But the religious authority did not want to dirty their hands with this man murder because they knew that his death was unjust. So they demanded the state authority do the execution. Being put in a rock and a hard place the state authority thought 1 life or many lives. It was clear. So the state authority still trying to get out of killing an innocent man gave the religious authorities a choice we will kill only 1 man you choose. The religious authorities choose to free a murderer so they could get this man who taught love thy neighbor off their backs. 5 Here is a question: How many people have to be tortured killed jailed and discriminated against because of their race, religion nationality and what ever difference you want to come up with, in the name of the Creator. Before we say it is enough. 6 One final thing on the way home we passed a church with a sign out side that read who killed Jesus. Some will say the Romans some will say the Jews. But Christ said thy will be done. The Creator had Jesus killed. Delroy 03-19-04, - 12:05 PM Vicky, You seemed to have missed the entire point of the movie. The Passion of the Christ was based on the sufferings of Jesus, That's It! Who cares about bank accounts getting fat? You are right when you said that no human can take a beating like that loose so much blood and still be able to lift a cross much less carry it as shown in the movie. Thank God that Jesus was not an ordinary human or it would have been a sad future for allot of people. In fact; the movie had down sized the brutality that Christ endured on that day. They showed Jesus with a cloth around His waist but the truth is that Christ was crucified Naked. He had to bare our shame in public and by His stripes we were healed. Vicky, Don't allow your hate to overshadow your judgment because even to a fool your words will become meaningless. Vicky 03-19-04, - 04:29 PM Vicky, You seemed to have missed the entire point of the movie. The Passion of the Christ was based on the sufferings of Jesus, That's It! Who cares about bank accounts getting fat? Hi Delroy we are in agreement the story was based on the sufferings of Jesus. But the purpose was profits. Mel Gibson did not do it for free. Again religion being used for profits. You are right when you said that no human can take a beating like that loose so much blood and still be able to lift a cross much less carry it as shown in the movie. Thank God that Jesus was not an ordinary human or it would have been a sad future for allot of people. I disagree here Jesus body was human in every way it was his spirit/soul/life force that was different. In fact; the movie had down sized the brutality that Christ endured on that day. They showed Jesus with a cloth around His waist but the truth is that Christ was crucified Naked. He had to bare our shame in public and by His stripes we were healed. Sorry I would have to reaserch that one. What verse in the Bible did it read Christ was naked. Vicky, Don't allow your hate to overshadow your judgment because even to a fool your words will become meaningless. Great Demos 03-20-04, - 09:55 PM Mel Gibson is a christian and today's news estimated that he would make $100 million from this movie. It is also believed that he would give much of this money away to the church and to charity. Vicky, is not that a good thing to do? So at least two noble deeds would be accomplished from the proceeds from one movie: Helping charities and leading people to Christ. And Vicky, I agree with Delroy's two points. 1) That Christ was crucified naked (I don't know that this is in the Bible, but I heard a number of pastors testified to this). 2) That Jesus was not an ordinary human. He was (and is) the Son of the Living God. How could His body have been "human in every way" when His mother Mary was impregnated by the Holy Spirit? Delroy, I note that there are some on this site who seem to be atheist or have strong atheistic inclination. The only thing that might help them to understand the Holy Scriptures, I believe, is for them to bear in mind that "Human knowledge must be understood to be believed, but divine knowledge must be believed to be understood!" Great Demos Great Demos 03-22-04, - 10:53 AM Geez, if a local pastor said this it MUST be true!! :shaky: I would say that the fundementalist / born again christians in the bahamas turn off us other christians from going to local churches, as it gets real boring after a while hearing people around here talk about the bible in everything they do, god made man to think for himself, god is not going to pay your bills. Poor bahamians are giving large parts of their salaries to these churches, thinking they are giving it to God, when God doesnt care less about money, nor where you worship/pray. Pray at home for a change. God doesnt also care about you walking down the street with musical equipment, blocking traffic, but heck I know us stuck in the traffic jams DO CARE about that! I can accept that Jesus existed and there is a God, but the Bible has been translated so much over the years that not everything in there can be true. A christian does not have to go to church or quote scriptures in everything they say, or read the bible every day, to be a christian, and if you think everyone that questions something is an athiest then you are being misled by your pastor, your church, or whatever bible you are reading. If you call me an athiest for thinking for myself, go ahead, you are not the one that will be judging me when I die. I believe in good over evil, and do unto those as you would have them do unto you, and thats good enough for me. It doesnt seem like alot of church going christians here in Nassau follow that last part. Hi Rory, Some of your beliefs are right, but some of them certainly don't line up with the Bible. My eldest brother was like a father to me and all of our younger siblings, a great unsung, hero of a Bahamian, if I may say so. He has many of these beliefs you have, and (seemingly) like you, nothing can convince him otherwise! One day (soon, I hope), I will go into details and explain better what I am trying to say. But suffice me to say for now, "I JUST CANNOT BRING MYSELF TO BELIEVE THAT ALMIGHTY GOD, CREATOR OF EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE WOULD ALLOW HIS WORDS TO GO DOWN THROUGH THE CORRIDORS OF TIME AND END UP BEING MESSED UP BY MERE HUMANS WHOM HE HAS MADE FROM THE DUST OF THE EARTH! And I hope that one day both you and my brother would "come to the end of yourself" and accept the Bible for what it really is, The Inspired, Living Word of the Living God! Great Demos Vicky 03-22-04, - 01:25 PM Geez, if a local pastor said this it MUST be true!! :shaky: Ok so the Pastors have a direct phone line to haven. We all have just as much a direct line they are no different. Just as they try to add Christ about being naked they also add in their own interpretations as well. I would say that the fundementalist / born again christians in the bahamas turn off us other christians from going to local churches, as it gets real boring after a while hearing people around here talk about the bible in everything they do, god made man to think for himself, god is not going to pay your bills. Pray at home for a change. God doesnt also care about you walking down the street with musical equipment, blocking traffic, but heck I know us stuck in the traffic jams DO CARE about that! The answer to this is in Matthew 6 1-13 but I like Matthew 6 5-7 And when you pray you must not be like the hypocrites for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at street corners that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you they have recived their reward. But when you pray go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. And in praying do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do For they think they will be heard for their many words. A synagogue is a house of worship as a Church (the building) is a house of worship. So now where do reverends pastors bishops and other clergy stand now MMM hypocrites looks so to me. They don't teach you to go to your room and pray. They say come to church to pray and by the way when you are coming bring your tithe. I can accept that Jesus existed and there is a God, but the Bible has been translated so much over the years that not everything in there can be true. Not to mention that Emperor Constantine influence at the Nicene council. Oh and the Gospels of Thomas how about them??? Can anyone tell me they are less inspired by the Creator??? A christian does not have to go to church or quote scriptures in everything they say, or read the bible every day, to be a christian, and if you think everyone that questions something is an athiest then you are being misled by your pastor, your church, or whatever bible you are reading. It doesnt seem like alot of church going christians here in Nassau follow that last part. You understand more than most of these so-called Christians. Christ came to simplify your relationship with the Creator and your fellow human. Vicky 03-22-04, - 01:26 PM Hi Rory, Some of your beliefs are right, but some of them certainly don't line up with the Bible. Great Demos Great Demos 03-23-04, - 10:56 AM Ok Vicky, great! On another post, you gave us all this great big task, ie, to prove the Bible is the word of God. (I am gradually working on it). Could I give you a much easier task? Can you in all your wisdom prove that the Bible is NOT the word of God? (At times Jesus Himself answered a question with another question). Great Demos Very good now you are beginning to think out side of the box. Now it is you who say my brothers and sisters and I who are different must live by your faith and abide by the laws in the Bible (which you can't even do) because you believe it to be the word of the Creator. The only thing you or I have are old scrolls written by mans hand. Anyone can claim that what they write to be the words of the Creator. Tell a lie long enough and loud enough pretty soon it becomes truth. The world is flat if you sail out to far you will fall off. How many people lived their whole lives believing this. Great Demos 03-24-04, - 10:44 AM Thanks Vicky, I'd just like to correct some of the impressions you seem to have of me. I would say you live by faith in God and the faith of God (NOT my faith). I would NOT say you are different -- my thoughts would be: "He who is without sin, let him cast the first stone" (the words of Christ, and Christians are supposed to have the mind of christ!). And YES, I can't fully abide by the laws of the Bible, but I can certainly TRY to. YES, we have "these old scrolls written by man's hand", but pray tell me, if you search all of the world's literature, philosophy, or whatever, can you find anything more resonable, just, fair, and truthful than the words of Christ? It is said that nothing in world literature is greater than the Sermon on the Mount, Christ's great presentation of the principles of the kingdon of God. (Matt chaps 5 through 7). Vicky, do you know of any other religion (except Christianity that has prophesies which tie in with God's words as well as world events? Have you ever read or even heard about any of the other religions which have Father, Son and Holy Spirit who were ever living and have ever been alive? You talk about people believing a lie if it is told long enough. There is also the situation of people being greatly riduculed and scorned (even in modern times) for telling the truth -- even for introducing inventions for the betterment of mankind! The world is replete with this.! Vicky 03-24-04, - 12:38 PM Thanks Vicky, I'd just like to correct some of the impressions you seem to have of me. Wow another person with a free thinking mind. "Those who say they know, don't know and those who say they don't know, know" (I think the gospel of Thomas, Gnostic gospels) Vicky, do you know of any other religion (except Christianity that has prophesies which tie in with God's words as well as world events? Which of the Creators words and which world events world events?? Have you ever read or even heard about any of the other religions which have Father, Son and Holy Spirit who were ever living and have ever been alive? Most all religions have had living messengers. Mohammad, Buddha, and so on. Other wise how would people know of them? Look at how many religions where the Creator is female. For me the Creator is neither male nor female and yet both in 1. I don't think the Creator needs a sex organ. Also to me the Creator lives in everything. You talk about people believing a lie if it is told long enough. There is also the situation of people being greatly riduculed and scorned (even in modern times) for telling the truth -- even for introducing inventions for the betterment of mankind!
