Do you believe in the "perseverance of the saints", or "eternal security" or what is more commonly known as, "once saved, always saved"??????? I don't believe in "once saved, always saved". There are many examples in the Bible that illustrate that we can loose our salvation. Let me use the children of Israel as an example because God made an example out of them. God saved the children of Israel from captivity in Egypt. He delivered them from slavery which is physical bondage. People in the world today are enslaved also but they are enslaved spiritually. Jesus Christ saved us who were once in the world from spiritual bondage through His sacrifice on the cross. Here is the answer: When God delivered the children of Israel out of Egypt He did something marvelous. He sealed the deliverance by the opening and closing of the Red Sea. Not only did He closed the door to captivity, He also destroyed the past that was perusing them. It was the first baptism, a new beginning into all that God had promised to them from the beginning of this world. Later, when doubt and disobedience (both sins) entered the hearts of the children of Israel and they desired to return back to Egypt but it was too late. God had closed the door and whatever door is closed by God no man can open. They would have died trying to swim back across the Red Sea (so to speak). It took 40 years but they who were "saved" out of Egypt all died in the wilderness and only their children saw the promise land. The same can happen to anyone who disobeys God (saved or unsaved). Allot of saved people today desire to return to Egypt (the past that Jesus delivered them from). Paul calls them "double-minded" and unstable. Many of them die a spiritual death after salvation and some; even physical. But God loves us so much that through Jesus He gave us a way back to His Kingdom. When Jesus died on the cross God braked His seal (the vale) and opened the door to salvation. And whatever door God opens no man can close. This door is always open and we do not have to die because Jesus died for us. The prodigal son can always come back home and his Father will always greet him with open arms. Gods' desire is that none should perish but all shall live. Salvation is free but God made us kings over the earth. Kings are free to make their own decisions and one of them is the choice to live or die. This is why the the Bible says to 'choose life' because it's an option. I hope that I answered your question. Here are a few verses they use. Jesus said in John 6:39-40, "This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of all that He has given Me I lose nothing, but raise it up on the last day. For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day." John 10: 28-29 "And I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand." Romans 8:35-39 "Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Just as it is written, 'for your sake we are being put to death all day long; we were considered as sheep to be slaughtered.' But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." 1 Peter 1:3-5 "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time." How much value one wishes to put in these verses, and others, is a matter of interpretation. |
