CG 05-09-07, - 05:22 PM It is subtropical but thay have named it http://www.wunderground.com/tropical/ diarra 05-09-07, - 05:24 PM Normally there would be prognostications on the amount of "possible" storms for the season by the Met office. I have been tryin to follow the evening news but haven't heard anything thus far. Have they made those predictions as yet? I am praying for an absolutely passive storm season tho. We need one or 2 seasons to bypass us so that we can really make considerable progress in rebuilding those out Islands. Tafadhali 05-09-07, - 05:25 PM dear god I scared! But I heard that a while ago, things might have changed. LL Cool G 05-09-07, - 05:35 PM Last I heard it will be an "active" year 14 storms 3-5 big ones. But I heard that a while ago, things might have changed. they said that last year too. you just never know what to expect. chancellor 05-09-07, - 06:47 PM Man the storms started before the season's predictions! Alien 05-09-07, - 06:50 PM We need to do what we normally do, and that is batten up the hatch! We are Hurricane ready people. No storm can wipe up out, because we know how to prepare and have faith in God, that we will ride out the storm. Be midnful of how serious this is, but show calm as we have been here before, and we just need to keep our eye out for what is up. B21 05-09-07, - 07:02 PM I've been listening to channel 12 and the weather forecast lately, and boy have they been consistantly inaccurate in there forecast predictions. I thought that they just copped there info from the Florida channels, by they inconsistant. I've been expecting rain from last week Thursday.... Then on Monday they said it would be pouring rain, when I stepped out side, that was the most loveliest sprinkle I've seen in a while. I pray that we are as fortunate as we were last year, if not, alot of my work will be behind. I don't know this for sure but I believe we get our info from them - certainty form noaa. Keep an eye on these and you will be ahead of the news. http://www.wunderground.com/tropical/ http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ http://www.crownweather.com/tropical.html http://www.hurricanealley.net/ Copy these links to your desk top or where ever you want to keep them, but keep them. We can very easily be wiped out if the big one hits us directly. Alien 05-09-07, - 07:57 PM You obviously haven't seen the aftermath of Ivan in Cayman. We can very easily be wiped out if the big one hits us directly. We have been hit direct. FPO has been hit hard twice. We have been slow to rebuild, but we will rebuild and with the Caymans, all was not lost. :) CG 05-09-07, - 07:57 PM You obviously haven't seen the aftermath of Ivan in Cayman. If a big one were to hit Nassau we would have to erect a sign "Closed, until farther notice." LL Cool G 05-09-07, - 08:00 PM I agree! look what happened to GB. If a big one were to hit Nassau we would have to erect a sign "Closed, until farther notice." which reminds me.........we need an emergency evacuation plan, ASAP. something that doesn't rhyme with Bahamasair, preferably. these "hurricane shelters" would be as much good as a wet paperbag if we were directly hit by a BIG storm. CG 05-10-07, - 09:14 AM which reminds me.........we need an emergency evacuation plan, ASAP. something that doesn't rhyme with Bahamasair, preferably. I think about that myself. If we are talking about New Providence, I don't see how it could be done. Do we have enough planes? Could we get everyone out in two days? I doubt it. And where would we go? these "hurricane shelters" would be as much good as a wet paperbag if we were directly hit by a BIG storm. True. What can we do? Build proper ones? That would cost big $$$$ because we would have to build lots of them. As we live in a hurricane zone I am surprised we don't build our houses accordingly. Many years ago I was up North - way up North in Eskimo country. When those people were out on the ice, hunting, they built igloos - out of snow block in the form of a dome. The little house routinely stood up to winds of 190 - 200 mph. I am not suggesting we build out of snow lol! That would be another problem lol. What I am saying is why not build round houses - domes? The houses we have now are like sails that catch the wind. Domes allow the wind to blown around and over. They could be made of blocks and cement and would stand up very well. They could be big enough to live comfortably in. If I was building again it would be a dome house. :) Yahooey 05-10-07, - 10:04 AM I think about that myself.
