Well western air seems to be a promising company. I would like to watch it grown into one of the nations top airlines. Finally there's something reliable, something other than bahamasair. Has anyone flew carribean aviation yet? someone tell me how is their service. The outsourcing is somewhat a good idea, maybe just because the airlines might get more customers. However i generally believe that the government(bahamasair) should keep its hands off of the private airlines. I always suspect that bahamasair wants to keep a monopoly over airline routes, but i think the private sector is now to strong to overtake. Now if only the sea transportation industry can expand, especially fast ferries that would be even better.

Only if government do some major infrastructure on certain Family Island docks such as Andros, Eleuthera and Exuma then these islands can have an increase in ferry services along with an increase in population. The largest cities around the world are built around modern harbours. Look at Nassau and Freeport and soon to be Marsh Harbour!
I wont mind living in Eleuthera and working in Nassau if there were more ferries services that can transport myself back and forth for a reasonable price and a fixed time (6am and leaves at 10pm the latest from Nassau).

That's exactly what I was thinking! maybe some kind of commuter ferry service. It would revolutionize the entire Bahamas. I believe something like that can be used as a tool to unify island economies. I mean being working on one (nearby) island and living on another would be excellent! The economy of other isalnds can be improved. Some large island need something like this right now like Grand Bahama (Sweetings cay to Freeport) and maybe even Andros.

Seems the gov't doesn't want any international ferries though... The permit for a Ft. Lauderdale to Nassau run couldn't be secured by the only operation that runs a fast ferry. It's too bad as the ferries employ lots of Bahamians and can carry lots of baggage and cargo. Maybe when the next election comes they'll get around to it.
