Have you noticed the smoke in the air? I was down at the Montagu early yesterday and it was quite evident in the air. Is this from the fires in Florida or is the dump at it again? It cant be good for the lungs!

CG 05-14-07, - 12:37 PM looking at the shots on CNN it looks like it could be from Florida....but i seriously doubt it.... Right now the wind, such as there is, is blowing from the NNE so you might be right. The dump again? But it does not smell like it. Delroy 05-14-07, - 12:38 PM Have you noticed the smoke in the air? I was down at the Montagu early yesterday and it was quite evident in the air. Is this from the fires in Florida or is the dump at it again? It cant be good for the lungs! This was from Friday night. I think it was the result of some bush fires out west. Not good at all for sinus suffers. bahamianpride 05-14-07, - 12:40 PM This was from Friday night. CG 05-14-07, - 12:41 PM This was from Friday night. I think it was the result of some bush fires out west. So it is "our" fires! Let us hope for rain soon Not good at all for sinus suffers. Tell me about it! My sinus have been playing me up the last few days! :) CG 05-14-07, - 12:44 PM has anyone declared a drought yet... the little rain we got yesterday was soaked right up.... I have a rain water tank. A big one! thousands of gallons! I can see the bottom! Not good! I will have to use city water soon. adidasboi987 05-14-07, - 12:47 PM i havent noticed. been inside most this week....too hot man....all i do is stay in my room (Ac On) jump in my car (Ac On) and go where i have to go then back home... gullyrock 05-14-07, - 12:58 PM I think the smoke is a combination of local fires and the ones in Florida. It has been blowing here in Abaco and the smoke was awful! For a few days last week the mainland of Abaco was not visible from the cays!!! We had a good wash down yesterday ( some people say there was hail too) and today the smoke isn't bad...I think the wind changed direction too! But a lot of people are having respiratory problems. Terrible for people with asthma! chancellor 05-14-07, - 01:02 PM I dont know about Nassau but some of that smoke according to some of the US news agencies are spreading as far as West as Texas to As far east as The Bahamas. But then again even Nassau seemed more smoky than normal Saturday Morning. Flying into Freeport for Mother's day Saturday morning the scene was more obscured than normal. I though it was heavy morning dew, but that wasn't dew. You couldn't even see the ocean that good. We were about to land and for as low as we was I thought we were still in the clouds (thank God for pilot's instruments!). Now ther was some fires out east but that wasnt near enough fire to create that much smoke cover. It cleared up much by Sunday though. bahamianpride 05-14-07, - 01:30 PM can we sue the american government and the EPA for medical costs and environmental damage because they can't contain their wildfires... androsann 05-14-07, - 01:35 PM A lot of the smoke could be local to the Bahamas. There are many bush fires burning over here in Andros at the moment, we have been living with smoke in the air for weeks. Let's all pray for rain!! casualobserver 05-14-07, - 01:56 PM There are over 200 wildfires in Florida and Georgia right now. Drought conditions have driven the state to impose tighter water use restrictions. Even tighter restrictions (no lawn watering at all) are about to be considered too. They say the only thing that could relieve Florida of it's drought conditions is a few tropical storms! Tropical storms - now we have to hope for them to come! I've been in Fla for the past 3 weeks and it smells like an ashtray when I walk outside - it burns the eyes and clogs the sinuses. Good thing I'm a smoker - I go outside with my Marlboro filters (unused, of course) stuck in my nose! :D Rizzo 05-14-07, - 02:29 PM The smoke is still in the air. I noticed it over the weekend. It can be seen everywhere throughout Nassau. I don't think it's from any fires over here. Plus it rained heavily yesterday, and the smoke can still be seen today.
