SMV = slow moving vehicles

What is going on with SMV in Nassau? These people have no respect for other people on the road, they believe everyone wants to "cruise" along with them as they go 20mph. It doesn't matter what time, what day or which route it is, you would have to overtake at least 3 SMV each time you hit Nassau's roads. What is up with that?? Are there any SMV people out there who would like to explain the situation....is it gas...it is engine issues...you just don't care...please share!!!!

BTW, I am excluding tractors, trailers, 18 wheelers or any other large "hauling" vehicle for obvious reasons

Sometimes the speed limit isn't even posted but on most roads I have noticed 30mph generally we go 40-45mph, that's a comfortable speed...15-20pmh is NOT!!!

This still doesn't answer my question, it's frustrating when you leave your home at a reasonable time....you already factored in traffic etc but you end up behind a slow poke, not 1 but 2 or 3!!!!

I think people my age fall into two catagorize - slow, slow or dead fast but think they are going slow! Personally, I have to keep my eye on the speedometer as I fall into the latter category. lol. lol. :)

I have noticed a lot of people on their cell phones as they drive - some seem to drive slower and slower as the conversation progresses.

Some guys go slow so they can keep an eye out for any likely ladies walking.

But by and large, I don't think we are that slow a bunch of drivers, quite the opposite!

ok, I don't generally think everyone is slow but I do get frustrated with bumping into a SMV every single time I go out in Nassau, I mean it happens so often, it's a becoming a nightmare, you hit one SMV, overtake that one few miles ahead, you buck another one, remember it's like a Monday morning and you trying to get to WORK!!!! So, you in ya car thinking...where are these people going!!!!

you know there is a process for creating speed limits...and i'm sure they weighed your displeasure with slow drivers when setting said limits...

I must have overtook like 10 times today .. and its always on roads where it is hard to overtake, so you gotta punch the crap out of the gas peddle to get around them quick and safely .. man these SMVs cause more accidents than they are worth .. they need to get off the road and or retake their license.

BTW i imagine most of them, simply cant drive or handle the vehicle for one thing, but many are drunk, high, some are old folks, some haitians (yes i said it), and many of them dont even have a license or own the car, some cant see (need glasses) and you will see them with their eyes poking through the front glass, and then there are the ones that have 10 kids all over the shifter and thing ...

There are places where it is not safe to go certain speeds, good drivers know this, bad drivers, and ones that cant or dont know how to drive, dont. There are safe speeds above 25 mph and many safe speeds above 35mph, and that covers most of N.P. You can die in a car accident at 30 mph just as easily, yet its always about speed. I can easily flip my jeep at 30mph if I hit the wrong pothole at the wrong angle.

What is speed? I asked a cop that once when he said I was speeding, in fact I called a couple of them over to answer it. I was like WHAT??? I was doing 38mph and his answer was simply the speed limit is 35mph. SO?? That doesnt mean I was speeding. Really though speeding means different things to different people. I think 70 mph is speeding, for certain, as that is a risky speed on a public road, in fact anything above 50mph could be considered speeding, regardless of laws.

Now, to do 30mph in my jeep, I burn more gas than if I were to do 40mph, which is its typical cruising speed. To continuously have to stop for Slow drivers and others that come out in front of you, even more gas and more stress on my brakes.

I've mentioned it before, revamp the islands speed limits, some are prehistoric. Some are designed for bad drivers, for which the rest of us suffer. TIP - get the bad drivers off the road! YES - SLOW DRIVERS ARE BAD DRIVERS too.

If one wants to drive so slow, goto an out island where there is nowhere to get to, nothing to do. This is a City, things are happening and people need to be places to make them happen - 20mph and even 30mph will not get us there on time, and don't give me that leave sooner thing, cause we all know that doesn't work, unless one has nothing else to do with their life.

For those that dont want to drive reasonable speeds, stay home, catch a bus, or walk. For those that cant drive reasonable speeds, they need to loose their license. Same goes for people that drive 70mph all over the place, or faster. My Gawd man, they do 100mph on Eastern road on Weekends in the early hours of the morning.

Bottom line is everyone needs to retake their drivers license, the licensing requirements need to be improved, speed limits need to be revamped (gone are the horse and carriage days), limit the number of vehicles per household, and for gawds sake, get some road traffic law enforcement on the road again.

my 21 cents .. :D

boy, you heading onto a dollar, but I do understand you.

I don't know about revoking their license though LOL. But I think a 4 lane system would be nice on all major roads, two lanes heading the same directions (east or west), so the SMV can be on the right lane heading let's say east and you overtake them safely in the left lane heading east as well :) .

You are right, this is a city and people have things to do, not "sky-lack" behind a slow poke, if we want to advance to 1st world we need to start by moving like one and this includes when we reach work too!!!

Totally irrelevant, I'm sure, but in the UK (I've spent a reasonable amount of time there), the fines for driving too slow (below the posted speed limit) are actually greater than the fines for driving too fast.

Driving too fast usually only puts the driver of *that* car at risk.

Driving too slow is far more dangerous as it causes *everyone* else to drive with more risk in order to pass the SMV.

Back to here, and again, probably off topic, but what's with single lane roads having two speed limits posted, one for trucks and one for cars.

If its a single lane road, how can you have two speed limits? It makes no sense!

are you going to fine people for driving five miles under the speed limit...
if the limit is twenty-five...then how slow should you be allowed to drive...

plus most of the roads have appropriate speed limits...
the real problem is the number of cars on the road...
