View Full Version : Con Artist on the prowl
grouper2 05-26-07, - 01:24 AM This bit of info. is for all those peps who works as cashiers in any public business house. Today aruond 6.30 pm i was in wendys at the m mall.I had already place and paid for my order and was waiting to collect it, the next customer was call. This was an elderly gentleman (or so i thought) he walk up and ask the cashier to give him a $50 bill, he give her 2-$20,1-$5. and 5 -$1s, she then give him a b$50 note, this i notice when she counted it,i thought it was strange that he would come to ask for change, but i just forget it.
She step away to pack an order when she came back to the register, the guy said to her "you did not give me my money". She reply, yes i give you your fifty dollars. "He then said no I give you $100.00,look in the draw, look in the draw". I was stunned, because i saw him collect his fifty dollars and pocket it.
I told the cashier to call the supervisor, i also told another customer what i saw,I then give the cashier my busuness card and told her to call me if she need a witness. i told the supervisor that the guy got his money and she should call the police and let them deal with that.
To all of you cashiers, when someone comes to you and ask you to change
money with out ordering, a RED FLAG should pop up in your head. The con artist is on the prowl and he ain't no young boy.
thats what they have cameras for .. oh yeah, and audio ;)
The most common (I see) is they dropped some money and they came back to get it (they are owed it now by the owner so they think, they say some staff mussee pick it up), they do that with the gas stations all the time .. well video doesnt lie .. and they generally always are :D .. oh yeah "they" are mostly women also. Course the one where they say they gave the gas station attendant more than they actually did, is also very common.
But yeah Wendys have cameras .. and they use to have audio also .. not sure if they still have audio or if it is working or not, but I know they got cameras installed just recently .. cheap ones but still got a good enough image to see whats up.
Great Demos 05-28-07, - 08:12 PM Well I had a kinda strange experience, Saturday before last, big day, May 19th.
I had parked at the southern most area at Harbour Bay (you can look immediately south and see John Bull) to pick up a few items at City Markets. The time was approx 1:00PM.
As I started to exit my car (I had the 2 front windows screwed down about an inch and a half), there came this half crazed looking man rushing to my car, calling me some strange name I have never heard..
He was like, "Mr xyz, Hey man, where yu been don't know when I seen ya..."
He was yelling loudly in a somewhat Jamaican accent and as he rushed to the driver's side of my car where I was about to exit, I slammed the door shut and locked it! He was jumping up and down yelling and looked really crazy to me..
Then he started to apologize profusely, saying he was so sorry, etc, but he really took me for Mr xyz.
15 minutes later, returning to my car, there was a different, younger looking man, looking at me and my car and telling me how good my car looked, asking me the year, etc, etc. Then he told me my left front tyre needed air..I came out of my car and looked at it and realized he didn't know what the dickens he was saying. He kept insisting that air was needed..
I was like "get out of my face, you don't know anything about cars, I used to work on cars before you were born". Then he asked me where I was going. I WOULD NEVER OFFER A CHARACTER LIKE THAT A LIFT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!!
Now get this, as I was reversing out to leave, the very same man who had accosted me at first, ran down from about 4 cars away and started to direct me out, whch I didn't even need..
The next time something like this happens, I am going to use my cell and call the police!!! I feel certain those 2 guys were up to something!

It should be company policy not to exchange money unless there is a purchase made. I know Wendy's line tends to move fast, but who in their right mind would stand on a food line just to change money.:dgi: I hope that cashier didn't give that man another $50.

But isn't that cutlass bit against the law...I know a chick who used to carry one long time ago and she told me the police made her stop..
But I'll tell you one thing I eeeeen trusting those kinds of people these days when crimes are so rampant. I got robbed a couple times, but I stopped going out in the night some years ago, not even to church..
Sometime last year I was told that during a Bible study at my church one night, about 5 cars were broken into and ransacked, but the thieves found nothing. They had broken the wing glass (the little triangular glass on most door windows) of the vehicles.
The strange thing was that all the cars were parked in front of the church which was brightly lighted (the thieves were considerate tho, 'cause the smaller glass is cheaper to replace than the larger window glass!).

If that happens again, contact the security there. Ask for the man in charge and put him in the picture. Many years ago I use to work security and I would always welcome a "heads up" like that.:)

it seemed to me that they was in cahoots to steal your car- but they sensed that you were to smart to let them get away with it. next time something like this happens run them over.

the constitution is a wonderful document. you have rights within the law.
But isn't that cutlass bit against the law..
no chief, I is a gardener .. its against the law to walk down the street with it though .. but trust me, if they wont let me carry a gun, i carrying everything else, this is one crime infested island and i been robbed and attacked enough to know better!

Sometimes I see a couple security guys walking by Lowe's pharmacy in that area...do you mean those or should I check with the security at the bank?

I know just what you mean...and its really sad. I guess only God is keeping the tourist coming during these times. I remember a long time ago the thief mostly only used to steal from the rich and they never used to bother the tourist, but these days things have changed much..
I just hope and pray that the govt and the police really get a handle on the crime situation, 'cause our country and our people deserve much better.
