bally 05-27-07, - 12:53 AM did you know there was a young man on jeff lloyd last week name charlow who claim to be of jamaican decent but had a voters card since 97.
i heard that he got arrested. but that is not the thing i am worried about. it is the fact that he had a voters card in the first place. he get arrested the day after he was on jeff lloyd show and i think it was rightfully so.
what has me wondering, is that he got registered from 1997. shouldnt we be lookin into this as well as looking into the people who put him on the register.
looking back at the eletion, i think that him being oin the register just shows how lax this system is. also why is that even me as a bahamian, have to produce a passport whe i have to register even though i have been voting for 30 years and he claims to have only produced a school id card back in 1997. he is a illegal immigrant by our constituitions. i wonder how many people out there who get voters card are not supposed to be voting.
i dont like the way that sounds or the system in place and i think both sides should look into this, as people can be voting who are not elegible to be able to vote.
first time posting after looking in for a long time and i think the site is fantastic.

yes, he did.. immediately after the show.. In fact, the officer almost arrested Goman.. it was funny.. but like I said.. Mr. Lloyd should not have had that guy on that show like that...
I feel Mr. Llyod has to pay for his defense....
That was no joke.....
Sunnyjohn 05-27-07, - 05:02 PM As a full Bahamian citzen of two full-blooded married citizens, I can say with all sincerity, the time to fix immigration has come. I listened to Deacon Lloyd's show that day and I was moved.
There are THOUSAND of young people in the Bahamas in the same situation as "Charlow"
The young man "Charlow" was born in the Bahamas to a Bahamian father (full blooded Eleuthrean) and a Jamaican mother. He has lived his entire life in the Bahamas.
Because his parents were not married at his birth, he had to apply for citizenship. He did so back in the mid-'90's and is STILL waiting.
Close the loophole so that voter registration this is not possible.
We need to fix this mess. Either end the backlog and give these folks papers or send them out of the country. It's just wicked to take folks money and keep them in limbo.
Perhaps if he had slipped someone a Rolex like ANS he would have his passport.

sellie 05-27-07, - 05:27 PM Bally there are many, too many loop holes in the constitution of the Bahamas as it regards to citizenship. But if constitutionally he is not a citizen then he should have not been eligible for a voters card. Secondly not every bahamian owns a passport. That's why we need another type of national ID and not the drivers license. Mr. Ingraham tried to deal with some of the citizenship issues in the referendum but the timing was wrong. He alluded that there wont be no constitutional reform this time around so I guess he wont bother with it this time but I hope he changes his mind or the opposition forces him to deal with it. Too many persons in and out the Bahamas that should be bahamians are not and thats not fair to them and a failure on our system.
I also heard that there was a guy who said he had five voters card. Now this is possible but should not have happened with technology today. They should have caught up with him before it reached to five. Again, if that it so.

this man knew what he was doing was wrong. even if the people didn't ask him for a passport he knew he should not have registered so he has only himself to blame. Can you imagine if we try to vote in America knowing that we are not a citizen?
marvinrzgibson 05-28-07, - 05:32 PM I don't know the fellow but I say he got what he deserved. There is a proper authority to go to if you have concerns about your status in this country. He went on Jeff Lloyd's show as a publicity stunt of some kind to make the PLP (or the FNM) look bad in the election process.
If he had a problem with his status he should have just said so and left it at that. Don't go on a public talk show, voter's card in hand and say, "Hey I'm not a citizen but I voted!"
Also, he should have kept a birth certificate or affidavit, signed by his Bahamian father, close by to deal with the snags he was bound to encounter like his arrest after fifteen minutes of radio fame!
Camelot 05-28-07, - 05:43 PM If his father is a bahamian then the constitution says he is a bahamian regardless of where he is born.If his mother is a bahamian then he is a bahamian if he is born in the Bahamas but not a bahamian if he is born outside the country assuming his father is non bahamian. Please check your constitution.
