You know something y2kbad, I agree with much of this post. Considering the goodness and blessings we have here in the Bahamas (although there is still much room for improvement), I just hope and pray we don't get infiltrated with those junky "religions" which would bring curse on our Bahamaland. There are signs of some of them being here!

"Junky" religions?
Which ones did you have in mind?
....and if you look closely..the ones who follow the laws of Adam and Moses, are the ones who are extremely succesful in social and econominc living!
First of all, the nations you mention are not exclusively followers of the laws of Adam and Moses. By the way, what are the laws of Adam? The only one I can think of is. "Don't eat any fruit that your wife gives you. Particularly if it has been recommended by a snake." :what: The greatness of those nations comes from creative thinking in their economies, and in some cases their ability to take advantage of other nations!
If you go to the US you can find all kinds of religions flourishing there. The same hold true for England. Another thing that makes some of those nations great is the diversity of religion and the tolerance of other kinds of belief.
If your theory that only the nations that follow the laws of Adam and Moses prosper, how do you account for great nations of the past? Rome, Greece, Egypt?
Vicky 05-06-04, - 12:58 PM This is the Bahamas, there is alot of discrimination, and other things. For example, at a certain well known restaurant, they only hire females, that is discrimination, and would be cause for a lawsuit elsewhere.
Batelco just announced that Voice over IP is punishible by the law now in the Bahamas. That is coruption, monopolisation, communism, whatever it is it is wrong, else where there are no problems with it. I just hope that when/if they do privatise, another private company say from canada or whereever, comes in and puts them out of business!
Next the government will be saying anyone that is not a 'born again' christian or doesnt go to church, is breaking the law! But at the same time, its okay to be a drug dealer, or take hand outs :-0
Sorry not communism but dictatorship. Communism is all for one and one for all. If I get a bowl of rice we all get a bowl of rice.

Not to "worry", CG, I was thinking of Rastas, Devil Worshipers, Voodoo, and some forms of Islam.

Phew! I was worried!
Most Christians think everything, except Christianity (and even a lot of other Christian denominations) are, junky religions! I should have known that you would not be numbered among them.
Truth is, I know a few Rastas, or followers of Rastafarianism. The good ones are good indeed. They exude peace and are, by and large, a happy people. The bad ones just smoke weed!!!
I have met a few Devil Worshipers. Can't say I agree with their form of worship. It has a kind of repulsing interest to me. :what: (Perhaps that is because World Religions and Myth is my field.)
Know a lot of Voodoo folk, or Vodoun as it correctly called. Good ones have a deep love of nature and their fellow man. They cast no bad spells. When I was a kid, we had a maid that worked for the family. She was a Vodoun Priestess. (Of course my parents did not know this!!) When I asked her how to case evil spells, she slapped me! Hard! "Don't put no pain on people!" She told me. "There is too much pain in the world right now! Good Vodoun cast only spells that help, not hurt."
As for some forms of Islam. Here is where I worry! I call it "Political" Islam. It is dangerous because it is using religion, and god (notice the small "g") to gain power. It has nothing in common with "real" Islam. I know a number of real Islamic people. They are kind, decent, well mannered and would willingly die themselves rather that do harm to the innocent - that is one of the corner stones of their faith.
All of these groups are here, and more besides. They have been here for years and years - God still blesses us. He will withdraw that blessing when we begin to persecute other groups in His name!
(I am not sure about the "Political" Islam being here but I would not be surprised.)

the only religions that raise my eyebrow in that list is devil worship and voodoo but there are more to these sects than what is portrayed in the media. Not all of them are about blood letting and virgin sacrifices :). My only problem with rastafarianism is that many kids my age and younger have no idea what it is based on and just like the idea of smoking marijuana and wearing the badges. Just think how much different the world would be if the other forms of christianity were still around and not crushed by what is now known as the roman catholic church :)
P.S. today i saw a documentary about the gnostic gospels and the theory that mary magdeline and jesus were married and gave birth to a french lineage called the merovingians (if this sounds familiar then it should, it's the french dude from the matrix) and only 24hrs after coming across the kinghts templar, coincidence?

There is a tradition that the Holy Grail was the cup that Jesus used at the last supper and was later used to catch a few drops of his blood. I think that the truth is that after the Last Supper, the cup was washed and put back on the shelf for the next party!
There is another old tradition that we can never prove this but it says that the "thing," the Holy Grail, that really held the "Blood of Christ" was his child, smuggled with Mary Magdalene to France. This is blasphemy to most Christians, but the truth is most Christians don't know, and fear, their many traditions.
P.S. Have you ever read the Gnostic Gospels?

Don't know where you live but if it is in the US go to any bookstore and look for a copy there. Also look for books on the subject by Elaine Pagels (Spelling?) She is, to my mind the best writer on the subject.
If you live in Nassau, good luck! I have a copy but it is out on loan and there is a long waiting list for it.

Hi CG and Koolbonze,
Will try to be brief in my views. CG, I notice you seem to like to use the expressions "Most Christians". I beliveve I mentioned before that this "Most Christians" category are the ones who are NOT really christians. Christ Himself spoke of many of them many times. Revelation tells us that only 2 of the 7 churches was pleasing to Christ. That works out to only 28.6% of persons who claim to be christians really are! So when you say "Most Christians", that has to be refering to the 71.4% who are pretenders. And eventually it would seem that some of them could well become real faithful Christians, while many would most likely not!
The only thing I have against Rastas (at least the few I know), is that they seem lazy, etc. I often wonder why they don't go and learn a trade like we had to do when we were growing up! Someone said they don't have to because they have other ways of making money! I don't know. But my pastor used to be a Rasta and perhaps even dealt in drugs. I have ABSOLUTELY NO problem with that. When persons who used to engage in all sorts of foolishness and or wickedness and or antisocial behaviour (NOT implying that all Rastas are this way), once they reform themselves or "turn over a new leaf", I believe they become better, stronger (spiritually), than persons who have not been exposed to any "junk". As a pastor, many persons sometimes come to him for help with their drug problem. I am much older than he, and even if I had 10 times his pastoral experience, I would not be able to counsel them one iota compared to what he can offer them. He has been there and done that; I have not.
I don't know much about voodoo/voodum, but I know a Haitian-Bahamian pastor for whom I have great respect. His contention is that Haiti has a spiritual problem, and he believes that that is their biggest problem. I pray God would bless Haiti AND Jamaica SOON!
In the case of Islam, there is only one little problem, (which may not be for real, cause I only heard this!): Two well known pastors said that if they try to convert you to their religion and you disagree to join them, thier Bible (the Koran, I believe) gives them the right to kill you!!!
(Maybe CG, you can shed some light on this).
And lastly, you mention that God will continue to bless us as long as the different religious groups don't persecute one another in His name. My contention regarding this is that if any persecution is done by "Christians" it would be by those in that 71.4% category who are NOT true Christians, but imposters!

Hi Koolbonze
I posted something from the Gnostic Gospels (I think it was last week) But no one responded. Its titled "Jesus saw and said" Guess it was to hard for people to understand or to accept.

And eventually it would seem that some of them could well become real faithful Christians, while many would most likely not!
When a person tells me that they are Christian I must assume that they are. If they are a good one or a bad one is not the issue. A Christian is a follower of Christ - very, very few really follow the Christ but they still claim the name because that is what they were baptized into. (Same hold true for all religions!)
There is the problem with Christianity, there is no universal definition of what really constitutes a Christian. (Other than a belief in Christ, which seems to be not enough.) Each Christian group thinks that his interpretation is right and others, with a few exceptions, are false. I remember watching TV and I heard a Catholic Priest say that "the only Church is the Roman Catholic church. All others are false." I turned the channel to a Protestant channel and heard, "The Roman Catholic Church has much to answer for as it has spread false doctrine to the world."
So, when I say, "most Christians" I am giving all who call themselves Christians the benefit of the doubt. They cant tell whom is whom, how can I?
In the case of Islam, there is only one little problem, (which may not be for real, cause I only heard this!): Two well known pastors said that if they try to convert you to their religion and you disagree to join them, thier Bible (the Koran, I believe) gives them the right to kill you!!!

There are verses in the Koran that, taken out of context, might be construed that way but I look at it this way. The Old Testament has some bloody passage too for those that dont believe. Please read the following regarding religious freedom in Islam:
"Along with freedom of conviction and freedom of conscience, Islam guarantees the individual that his religious sentiments will be given due respect and that nothing will be said or done which may encroach on this right. It is ordained by Allah in the Holy Qur'an: "Do not abuse those they appear ("appeal" I think they mean.CG Notes) to instead of Allah" (6:108). These instructions are not limited to idols and deities they also apply to the leaders or national heroes of the people. If a group of people hold certain convictions and certain persons in an esteem which you feel is not deserved, then it is not justifiable in Islam for you to use abusive language to them and thus injure their feelings. Islam does not prohibit people holding debate and discussions to be conducted in decency. "Do not argue with the people of the Book unless it is in the politest manner" (29:46) says the Qur'an. This order is not limited to the people of the Scriptures, but applies with equal force to those following other faiths."
To me that does not sound like a "Kill them all, let God sort it out!" kind of mentality. The above comes from a site worth reading http://www.jamaat.org/islam/HumanRightsCitizens.html#Sentiments
And lastly, you mention that God will continue to bless us as long as the different religious groups don't persecute one another in His name. My contention regarding this is that if any persecution is done by "Christians" it would be by those in that 71.4% category who are NOT true Christians, but imposters!
I hope you are right, but......
bsmbahamas 11-22-04, - 09:41 AM and do you really think that michealangelo was thinking about navels when he painted a man?
he was an artist, not an analytical perfectionist!
its like critisizing a work project you completed, by saying that it had too many ands, and buts in its writting.
you have to look past the political correctness, and look at the science of the life and the poetry of the texts.
you will never understand rudimentary causes of the bible or any religious text, if you dont look with understanding, rather than look to understand why!
if you are men with science on your side, then you must understand the power of theory, and the power of thesis...
nothing is initiated in science without theory..and nothing completed with out thesis...the bible has both, in more than one story, and you must look at it with the eye of your heart, than the heart of your eye.
you can never understand something in science if you dont look at the theory provided by the author...dont look with the shallow part of your brain, but look at the implications of the situations and people involved at that time.
look with your heart and feel...feel!
that is all the religious doctrine ask you to do!
and if you look closely..the ones who follow the laws of Adam and Moses, are the ones who are extremely succesful in social and econominc living!
no matter what you say!
U.S.
Bhamas
England
Europe
Turkey
Saudi Arabia...(the social condition could use tweeking, but at the cradle of society, you can expect things to be set in the old ways..if it was hinky dorry, we would not have the need to move from their.."our anscestors that is"
Iraq...pre U.S...they were first in college graduates in the middle east.
anywhere else that carries the Religions of moses and Adam with it....that isnt working, are becasue of gross mismanagements of the codes and ethics involved
Haiti...Voddo and catholisism is intertwined
Iran ...Extreemist have taken over.
China...A dung hole, compared with other civilizations, the majority of the people live in poverty
look around you..it isnt a monopoly...its just the blessings of the Father...Becasuse we follow his words the majority of the time..even though subject to human error...we still have in our hearts the right attitude!
God Bless us all....
well said y2kbad

I find find it extremely amusing that there are those among us that study the bible diligently and still turn around and practice voodoo, witchcraft and satanism. You would think that common sense will point out that if you believe in Satan, Demons and blackmagic - that you must also beleive in God and Jesus.
Not doing so is just as bad as following Jesus's teachings but rejecting the rest of the bible. This does not make any sense, especially when Jesus himself quotes from the scriptures and says that he did not come to change the law but to fulfill it. :shhh:
