The Bail Act really needs to be amended quick. Two standout cases here in Grand Bahama and I'm sure many more throughout the country have people here seeing red:

1. A while back, a man set fire to his estranged wife and her baby while she was asleep in her bed with the child. The woman died of the injuries. Where is the killer? Out on bail walking the streets chillin just like you and me.

2. Mother Pratt's son rapes and sodomises a 14 and a 15 year old girl. Where is he? Out on bail, chillin. And in this case he is not alone, as rape is a bailable offence in The Bahamas!

What kind of foolishness is this man?

its called the RULE OF LAW....
every individual is presumed innocent until proven guilty...
if that is the case...then people have a right to not be incarcerated until they have been provben guilty...

if we would stop filling our prisons with people committing non-violent crimes then we would have sufficient space for these violent and recidivist offenders

Murder, armed robbery and drug possession with the intent to supply is not bailable - but rape and molestation and grievous harm is. Yup, that's balanced alrite.

You just contradicted yourself. Accused murderers are innocent till proven guilty too. So why not let them out on bail? Why make more space for them to be on remand?

note the remark about non-violent crimes...
and many murder suspects do get bail initially...
but even those that don't have a right to bail...after an extended period of remand ...

HMP is just plain over crowded . All criminals that are sentenced to jail time should spend jail time non violent or not. Someone who comitts hundreds of dollars in fraud should spend time no he may not have comitted a violent crime but crime is crime whats different is the level of immorality associated with it.
in cases of rape fair is that the accused is presumed innocentuntil guilty so why deny them bail? As biased as this sounds any case involving underage minors and unconsentual sex, molestation, incest and the like should be an automatic no bail granted. The instances of sexually preying on minors have always existed but were mostly shrouded in secrecy to avoid shame. Im glad this is changing and more and more children and their families are speaking up. Pedophiles contaminate innocence in its purest form. That dirty monsterous bastard who raped tha six year old girl and left her for dead should be hung by his balls and his penis should be tied with string until it loses blood supply and falls off like a lil dogs tail. To me sexual offenders are the worst sort violation of a persons body changes their life forever and never for the good. Yep when they die they'll go to hell but i say lets give them a preview while they still living or speed up their reservations. Yes it sound harsh but that how enraged i am by those type of crimes. especially against young kids. I also think this government should increase the legal age of consent to 18. How can my 16 year old who is still in school live under my roof and dont have a pot to piss in if i dont provide them one give consent to sex but they een old enough to go to work to take care of themselves. Is it just me or is something wrong with that picture?

The minister of national security weather it be this one now or a future one need address the situation at the prison overcrowding and what not. As it stands we barely rehabilitate them most of those inmates are repeat offenders or lifers who consider hmp home.

sex crimes are violent crimes...that should be obvious to everyone
and we are talking about bail...not sentencing....
no people have human rights...
16 is an appropriate age of consent...
the problem is bahamians don't raise their children with the proper sexual awareness...
teach your kids how to negotiate sex...they will know how to say no...
but more importantly...they will never get in a situation that they can't control....
teach them how to avoid sex...and sexually charged environments....

that being said...
considering the conditions at the prison ...
i'm not going to foxhill not even on remand....

And it can lead to other crimes too. Because suppose nah someone rapes ya lil girl or lil boy, and when ya look within a few weeks he is back out on bail walking the streets chillin and ballin like he didnt just violate your child. Tell me you wouldnt get tempted to work a wibe on that person!

Hey....see some of your past post.

I am not sure I understand your point. They are my opinions!! If you do not agree then fine. I do not hold that against you and it does not take away from what I said nor how I think.

It is all of our right to judge , we do it everyday. I expect to be judged and so should you. I do not know what you idea of spirituality is but we still have a right to speak our minds. I spoke to a state of being in each of my posts and will contuine to. Again, My opinions can not be you reality and visa versa.:)
