View Full Version : Has anyone read the book Animal Farm?
Ajanikjl 06-04-07, - 04:26 PM It is amazing how the opposition seems emulate the characters in Animal Farm.
The oppositon leader reminds me so much of Napoleon and his followers who
love to use the words "our leader" are so much like the characters in the book. To those of you who have not read the book, please do so. It is written by George Orwell.
Before you make hasty judgements to my statements read the book if you have not done so already.

I have read that book, one of my favourites. In fact I just yesterday finished another of Orwell's works, the dystopic novel '1984'. Read it if you have the chance.
I think the comparison between the characters of that allegory and the members of the Oppostion is flawed and unfair. Napolean's character symbolized the communist dictator Joseph Stalin. If you are aware of the atrocities he committed during his iron reign, I think you would rethink the comparison. The other characters represent other key figures in the communist movement of that era, and the revolutions that were spurned to defeat it.
Look beyond the superficial plot.

I read it like 8 years back and really don't remember all the deatils. However I remember that the Rebellion agaisnt man by the animals ended in the animals becoming more in the likeness of man until there was no difference.. "four legs good, two legs bad"!
Snowball, Nepolian, Mollie, Boxer, The Dogs, and the raven, I mostly remember. And the wise donkey!
Interesting book though. I was told that it was based on a war comparison or something.

i read the book a while ago and i tend to agree to a point. the part where they talked about being different if they ruled and then not being able to see their faults once they got there.

Sheep are we. That is all.
Lurker 06-04-07, - 06:48 PM Perfect analogy. This is a line from the synopsis: Life becomes harder and harder for the animals; the pigs impose more and more controls on them while reserving privileges for themselves.
