View Full Version : Death to the diehards.
blacksheep 06-05-07, - 01:44 PM To all you FNM and PLP diehards and apologists out there please answer this question?
Is there a philosophical difference between the PLP and FNM. What makes the PLP bad and The FNM good or vice versa. I have heard people make statements like "I was born a XXX and i will die a XXX" . For God's sake, WHY? Both parties have been plagued by scandals, allegations of corruption, bad decision making, abhorrent governance and the like. What is the difference in political philosophy between these two beast that approximately 60% plus of Bahamians cannot claim that they ever voted for both parties during their lifetimes. Why the diehards?

FYI - not a diehard, but by looking at the words of those that are...
I think it all comes down to passion.
Passion doesn't require logic.
Passion doesn't require rational discussion
Passion doesn't have to make sense
You like what you like, like it or not
Think of it like NFL Football. Some Dolphins fans would love to beat the pigskin off any Jets fan, just because they are at Jets fan. People get fanatical about two teams who are -for all intents and purposes - exactly the same and evenly matched. Same in basketball, same in hockey, worse in soccer
But there is more scandal in politics
there is more rumour and sip sip in politics
odds are we know some of these people personally
and there is no Bahamian soap opera - so we watch the politicians! :D
A clinical look from a non-diehard!

well so far the plp is 80% corrupt and the fnm is 20% corrupt so i vote fnm but i am willing to give the bdm a chance if i no longer like what the fnm is doing but they did a good job so far. I will never vote plp though, they have made me have to choose between fnm and bdm.
Ting-um 06-05-07, - 05:26 PM I still don't understand how somebody calling for the deaths of others has the heart to call some one else "die hard".

Ting-um,
I apologise to all who find the title of this thread to be offensive, I certainly do not mean it literally.....I am thinking more like "death" to the idea of "political diehardism" for sake of a more appropriate phrase. I am against this philosophy of "I will only vote for one party" because I think it robs us of our potential to really take our democracy to another level that's all.. and I really wanted to know if their existed a definitive difference of philosophy between these parties ? I mean, the way the folks (diehards) on BI carry on, it really begs the question. My inquiring mind wants to know.
