What a stupid story. They quoted two persons who have absolutely nothing to do with the system and therefore are not qualified to speak authoritatively on whether NHI will happen or not. Why not speak to healthcare professionals or, HELLER, the Ministry itself??

Methinks, the article was one to promote the concern of the actual writer. He/she just used the union as a scapegoat to promote their issue/agenda.

do you have any idea ,how much money goes out of this country every day for medical purpose alone.don't you think we should keep more than 60% of that home.a person should only be allowed to go away for a med-operation if it can be done here at all.why are you so against this are you apart of the insurance industries here in the bahamas.come on we can achieve this.

why the rush now? the plp had five years and they didn't do it so give the fnm time to review it. do you even know what it offers? perhaps if you did you wouldn't be in such a rush.

the nhi plan will deduct monies from your salaries on a weekly basis just like nib.
the funds will be collected by nib
the cap is $133.oo a month so far, that's only at the beginning of the plan (can go up)
doctors involved in this plan will have a capped salary so we don't even have an idea which doctors will agree to it.
the same service you get at the hospital now for the free will be the only service you will get under this plan i.e. if you go to the hospital now you will get free medication for a minimal or no fee.
all will benefit from this plan whether they contribute or not yes this means illegal immigrants too.
if you are sick and in dire need of an operation you will have to go on the list no matter how long it takes.
there will be no going away to get services in any other country.
there has been no reliable study that actually can predict how much it will cost the country in the long run just guesses so far.
if medications are needed at while at hospital and the hospital does not have it in stock it will be up to you to pay for it with your own money.

im sure if Bahamians had a choice and services were offered here at a lesser cost...they would rather get their treatment home. and consumers must have a choice. The Bahamas is not a socailist regime. im not affiliated with any insurance company and no im not against healthcare for all citizens- just one who senses the making of bullsh1t when I see it...in theory excellent benevolent idea...but the way things are...and the set up of this plan...in theory is all I would allow myself to work with- there is no free lunch and we will pay in droves if this plan isnt implemented with clear thought and the research to ensure that it will be successful...

why are you so adamant that the plan in present form will work? how can you be so sure? with the Bahamian diet being what it is- 1000 angioplasties or triple by-passes in a month is not farfetched- do we have the manpower(cardiologist) to do the work---is 700 enough to cover the cost of surgery?

LOL..chile if anyone doubted NHI it was the PLP, because it didnt dedicate one single dollar to National Health Insurance in its 2007/2008 budget it drafted before being voted out of office.

Now tell me how were they going to implement NHI when they didnt make any provisions in their OWN budget for it? JOKES!! :shaky:

i'm telling you this was sent to my office. this is what the deal was so far. if the hospital does not have it you will have to pay for it out of pocket. i think this is why the plp had no budget for 2007/08 budget. the plan as it is now cannot work.
