Its interesting to hear you say that. So what would you say the average person saves on a monthly basis and how does this compare to your situation?

Seeing some people "in action" I think the average person saves about $200 a month...a generous guestimation

I give that number taking into account the amount of debt so many people have. If their cards are not maxed out with 18% interest (suicide really), and mortgages, and a number of small consumer loans, and the rate at which they pick up new loans, and salary deductions to service debt...and they haven't paid for gas or eaten yet! I've seen people save only once ever few months..and take that money out to shop away or just partying.....I don't get how they do it...to easily part with money like that.

Net take home pay. I'm saving with other objectives in mind. I think my current financial situation is fine. My future depends on where I decide to live. Out of the choices I would prefer living in the Bahamas, but I'm leary of the internal politics where merit, competence and ability account for little. Also, I don't think the Bahamas' banking/investment market is sophisticated enough to risk an extreme pay cut.

You have introduced another element that is so important and that is, having a financial plan. If you try saving without having a plan, it become extremely difficult because any uexpected situation will derail your efforts.
You also need to be able to sustain your savings, which means it must be come a habit and without your goals to motivation you will, you will not be able to discipline yourself for the longhaul.
The key to financial freedom is determination and consistency. The more you focus on the benefits the easier it will be to motivate yourself to stick with your financial plan.

I only work part time and school full time, but I save enough to pay my school fees, books, and miscellaneous fees like lunch and stuff.

Given the cost of living in the Bahamas what percentage of income would you say you are able to save on a monthly basis?

I WOULD GUESS ABOUT $1000.
BUT I DON'T.

If you are correct that the average person saves $200.00 per month. How do you explain your comment that most persons have less than $500.00 in their bank accounts?

Given your monthly jar of pennies, how would you describe your current financial positions and how do you feel about your future?

The dollar amount is not as important to me a the percentage of income being saved. So if you can focus on giving a percent saved that would be great...

It may surprise you but God wants you to know as well. He want you to use your talents and resources that He has given you in meaningful ways as this is the only way he can get His blessings to you. You must give Him something to use...
