He worth a good listen doe ting-um...give him a chance. He did say spread the taxes around, which is the first step. That does not include a tax break "omnibus" to the business persons. They need to pay their bills!
If you can not pay for a business permit, then you should re-condider going into business. Our business permit rates are reasonable as is.
How much is the permit?
Is anyone going to the event at Atlantis to hear this fella speak?
1bigfrog 06-20-07, - 12:30 PM ... and we are getting beat in the "development race" by the Dominican Republic and the rest.
all of the southern Caribbean have improved tremendously in regards to development during the last 10 years. I think the Bahamas is baffled as to what will be our next step. We have no one to look to, and say, I want be just like that...the rest of the Caribbean looking at us and duplicating our efforts.
Sunnyjohn 06-20-07, - 12:32 PM How de we commercialize Bahamian entrepreneurship ?
We must consciously encourage our people to move to the next level.

Privatize the light company, the phone company, the water, company, trash collection the post office AND Bahamasair.
(heck even privatise the police force and make them municipal city forces in FPO, Nassau, Abaco and the bigger islands)

I think a regular business permit ranges between $50 to $150 for regular businesses....

Financial companies are different....but still 50 to 150 is small change.

If you say that Bermudans are making all kinds of money - which they are - and that they have income tax much higher than Bahamians can withstand. How can you then suggest that income tax is a bad idea?? Its supply side economics. The government has to spend to increase aggregate demand, private entities can not do it alone. The government does a much better job. Which is why Bermudans make almost three times as much as Bahamians. And even if you tax 20 percent of 60,000, you're left with 48,000 which is still twice as much as the average Bahamian. Are you telling me you would prefer no taxes and make 20,000 a year than 60,000 and pay 12,000 a year in taxes??
Yes, that is retarded.

Yes bigfrog. Some of these companies are bogged down because of the inefficiency of the government.

Sunnyjohn 06-20-07, - 12:53 PM I like this guys idea of creating opportunity.
Any need is an opportunity.
Dirty street- business opportunity- charge folks to pick up trash in the streets
Crime- Job opportunity- offer security services to local folks.

Ting-um 06-20-07, - 12:55 PM This guy is avoiding the questions.
