The views expressed are right on. The tithes was designed to provide:

For the upkeep of the worship facilities and the staff responsible for carrying out its administration.
Ministering to the needs of the poor, widows, fatherless and homeless - (Charity) which were managed by the religious organizations
Encourage compassion and brotherhood

Given that its institution is connected to religious adherence your particular beliefs will dictate your actions. But as you can see it fulfils a worthy and useful purpose..Uplifting and sustaining the weak amongst us...

thnx Glenn and Ting-Um and the rest. yes giving tithes is a good thing to do. I don't have a problem with it and I am not against it. and I suppose that even I myself should tithe more often.:) but we all give in other ways too.
