More than a month after the new parliament convened, the Progressive Liberal Party has yet to file any action in relation to its promised challenge of certain seats in the upper chamber.
It seems to me that this battle between the PLP and the FNM over the senate seats is more of a power struggle between two very good friends Christie vs. Ingraham. Note order of name is only the alpha order.
You will recall that the PLP made the case that they are entitle to the balance of seats in the senate, it was noted that Mr. Ingraham did not disagree but simply asked Mr. Christi to submit three names that he (Mr. Ingraham) can feel comfortable with as he, (Hubert Ingraham) has veto power and in this case Christi has none.
So Christie forward to Mr. Ingraham four (4) names instead of three (3) names. Mr. Christi’s list was as follows, and in the interest of time, in note Mr. Ingraham's comments.
1. ------------- (definitely note aceptable, Chriti knows why)
2. Raynard Rigby (not acceptable; questions about his Bahamian status)3. Fayne Thompson (not acceptable, for reason both he and Mr. Christi knows)4. Michael Haltitis (acceptable, no problem).
Mr. Ingraham then asked Mr. Christi if he would be comfortable with the following:
1. Tanya Wright
2. Leslie Miller and
3. Michael Haltitis
So as to ensure that all would be sworn in ready for the new session of parliament, we all know the story. Now here is the interesting part, Christie out right objected to Leslie Miller and only indicated to Mr. Ingraham that he would get back to him on Tanya Wright. We now know Mr. Christi’s stand on Tanya Wright but he has made no public comments on objections to Leslie Miller.
Now Mr. Ingraham is by Wednesday to present the following names to Mr. Christi, seeing that he, Parry Christi want to name PLPs to the senate. The name will be as follows:-
Algernon Allen
Tennyson Wells
Lester Turnquest
Perrier Dupuch
Bismar Coakley or
George Wilson
There is no denying that these are indeed PLPs, real for Christi, it will baffle all of us, if Christi does not find any or all of these persons, very acceptable to be in the senate to complement the balance as is in the house of assembly.
