View Full Version : So, Can we all agree to change the laws of Man and Not of God?
Ejluv 05-07-04, - 01:21 AM OH, do I dare ask??
What I would like to see happen in Bahamas and the US is to have community property laws changed, health care laws changed, all laws dictating that when co-habitating together and financially sharing of each other's assets that the parties would be legally protected.
Having said that, I don't want to encourage and I don't encourage going against the laws of God and that includes ALL those that are living in sin allbeit, homosexuals, heterosexuals, giving birth or having sex outside of marriage, and do I need to say more?
All I can do is pray that through the spirit that leads me that it will shine a 'light' on someone else and that that 'light' will brighten their pathways as they travel through their darkest hours. Lest not forget the POWER of Divine love and Humble prayer. Each morning I wake, and throughout the day, I pray to be a kind soul that will be a blessing to someone. I pray that what comes from my mouth will be taken kindly and not offend anyone. As I speak with people I don't care to debate but let them speak their thoughts and listen and when it is my turn, they will listen to me.
I am a firm believer that as long as I witness my faith and share my God with all that I meet that they will gain something from it and it will bring them closer to their own relationship with the Heavenly Father that created us all. Laws of man can and are broken but the laws of God must continually stand. I caution all believers to remember that WE are to show guidance not only by our words but through our characters, our actions, and our love. We are not to speak of hatred, of striking out against anyone with the will to lame, torture, or kill. Yes, we don't condone the drunkard, the thief, the unwed mother, the fornification and all other things that are not following Gods laws but yet we will always try to help them to change their ways. Some will and some won't but we still approach them as human beings and invite them to our services and to our functions. We need to do that with all people, not just a select few.
I just am saying this to remind us that we are to always project ourselves to other in almost a way you would with a child, for some or many are babes in christ or do not know of his love as of yet. How are we to show them our God if we are being rude or violent towards them? No wonder they run, no wonder they doubt, no wonder they disbelieve!
As Christians we must focus on keeping those among our congregations that are professing to be of God in check. You can't go to church on Sunday and live the rest of the week for Satan and letting Satan take control til ya walk back through the doors of the church. Those types that are among us must be called out for they are not of God but the Devil trying to infiltrate the church and bring it down. Beware of those false witnesses, for they will destroy what you have done.
Yes, in the end times there will be wars and threats against us trying to get us to denounce our God.
I for one will not deny my God and will defend my belief and undying love for HIM even unto death.

You asked, "So, Can we all agree to change the laws of Man and Not of God?" I am sure we can, we have done so before (change man's law that is.) The problem is that many, if not most Christians, see the laws of man coming from the laws of God and only want to change the laws if they are in agreement with that laws as set down in the Bible.
What we need is to separate the two. The Civil laws should be those that we adopt for a fair, and peaceful society with equal rights for all. All citizens should be subject to them.
Religious law is a choice. We choose to follow a given religion. We "volunteer" to follow those laws and we have no right to demand others do the same.

Which laws of the Creator where do we find them. If you mean the laws in the Old Testament. You your self can hardly live by them.
Does you roof have a railing around it??
Deuteronomy 22
8 When thou buildest a new house, then thou shalt make a battlement for thy roof, that thou bring not blood upon thine house, if any man fall from thence.
How about eating conch and crawfish??
Leviticus 11
9 These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat.
10 And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you:
So who decides which laws of the Creator we follow and which ones we don't?? I can list many more.
I agree with you the Church and State must be separate. Church Law is for those that want to follow them and State law is for all and must be equal for all.

drwfra 05-11-04, - 09:21 AM O.K., Here's my two cents worth: On the surface, Ejluv, you are suggesting a pragmatic approach, and yes, it may seem (and I would agree) fair. From a religious view: (my own opionion and not speaking on behalf of anyone else)
Jesus said: "...render unto Ceaser the things which be Ceaser's, and unto God the things which be God's". (Luke 20:24)
There are certain authorities that are held by secular governments. The question in this passage relates to the paying of taxes. Today, we have "Church laws", and "laws of the land". At best, we would hope that religious laws are in concert with secular laws. However, we often overlook this one fact: a judge, or magistrate can perform legal ceremonies (marriage contract or civil union), but only the religious body can perform a "marriage", sactioned by the Church, Synagogue, Temple, etc. Sometimes the two spheres overlap as one may need a (civil) marriage licence from the government to legally recognize the religious union. So what am I saying? I am saying that the government can sanction, legalize, "civil unions", which I might add may include (for heath-care coverage, community property, and related issues) relationships such as parent and child, siblings etc.
My fear is that should this be done, you will have someone somewhere trying to stretch this out from the "sublime to the ridiculous", and may even try to extend this to relationships between pet and owner.
Please note, that I am not referring to physical unions, but merely relationships recognized by law.

When a pet owner buys a license for their pet they have a government-registered relationship. As far as Marriage goes when the pet becomes a consenting adult then yes they should be allowed to marry. So for this to happen the pet must say I do and be sentient (self aware) enough to understand what I do means.
