Hi all I need to set up a wireless internet connection as my Moms best friend lives in Scottland and would like to share in the celabration of my Moms life.
I know this can be done via webcam. I know this is last minuete but can any of you net gurus help me out here.
Tell me what I need to get and can you help me set it up??

I have webcam and use it all the time. But I need to be able to get the laptop with the webcam outside.

if you had two computers that both have wireless cards...a quick fix would have been to ad-hoc it.

1st you are going to need a wifi router or access point. Both will plug into your broad band router and most come with auto setup software.

2nd make sure your laptop has either onboard wifi access or you will need a wifi plug in card for it. Again most will automatically setup.

Its very easy to do this with almost no knowledge of computers.

My niece has a wireless router and a laptop she uses. She brought it and we hooked it up to the cable modem and it did not work.
She was using it just before she brought it here this morning...
The computer made the connection but we could not access messenger or any web sites

did you run the software that came with the wifi router? The software will make the connection. She will probably have to run it at home again too.

No we did not I did not think we needed to as it the same connestion router to computer. I will get it later and give it a try and let you know thanks for your help..

If you have a regular router, connect it to that ... Cable Bahamas tagged your regular router's mac address. You will just need to power down the regular router also so it sees the wireless router.

Or just unplug the cable modem for 3 minutes, connect the wireless router to the cable modem (remove the regular one), and power the wireless router up, wait a minute, power up the cable modem .. it should set the new mac address .. if not call Cable and they will do it for you from there.

Then your laptop should be able to connect. No additional software is required. If she uses wireless already, she will know how to connect using windows.

Once the laptop can connect to the wireless router inside, then connect the webcam to the Laptop .. ba da bing .. ;)

or just get one long cat5 cable and run that outside .. :)
