Did anyone see the Punch, Monday, May, 17, 2004. Page 7. "The Punch Says." "Watch out for the evil mind control cults." It seems that Anglican, Archdeacon Etienne Bowleg, and other established Christian Churches are worried about the cults. It seems they are worried that they are "stealing" their members.

The Punch, I think - in is not very clear who said it - names Jehovah Witness, Mormons, 7th Day Adventists, Christian & Muslim fundamentalist, Rastafarians and Santeria as some of these cults.(They never mentioned Buddhists?!?!) Then it goes on to say that established Churches have better trained pastors and are more accountable, money wise than "unestablished grassroots churches of the Baptists, Jumpers and other spin-off faiths"

Does anyone belong to any of these faiths? What do you think?

Here is a quote for the day. "...if you believe in it, it is a religion or perhaps 'the' religion; and if you do not care one way or another about it, it is a sect; but if you fear and hate it, it is a cult." Leo Pfeffer.

Considering where the accusation is coming from, it's not worth the time nor the effort to respond to such remarks and opinions. It was a narrow minded comment coming from someone who is supposedly so enlightened.

I take it that you are not an Anglican, or a member of the "established" churches.

Thank God. None of these so called Churches much less "established" Churches names can be found anywhere written in the Bible at least there is hope for us all.

I agree. But tell me this. Why do you Christians (I am Buddhist. I assume you are Christian?) allow someone like him to highjack the faith and call his brand the only brand and say nothing?

It is often useless to argue back and forth. I think the most important thing is to live the life. I would rather see a sermon than to hear one any day. Love is the principle thing. What we need to do more of is to love one another. Love is the fundamental thing.
We need more love in our hearts and we need to demonstrate this to each other no matter what labels are worn. Once we have more love there would be no need for such utterings. That is my basic philosophy.

And it is a good one! How did you come by it?

Now that I think about it CG... I have never heard of or seen a Bahamian Buddhists in my life. At least none that I know or who have told me that they were one.

You are the only one that I have met and not yet in person.

Wow!
