I was not aware of the "gansta factor" but, I would add another one: Beer, ganstas and half naked females are a recipe for disaster and violence. And if you add that loud, crazy, noisy "music" we hear all the time, you would really be looking for trouble. Rory 05-27-04, - 12:50 AM I remember there was a time in the early 90's that it was illegal to play rap or reggae in public, night clubs, etc, for a while, due to the enormous amounts of crime, fights, shootings, that broke out at the clubs that played it, or at parties, etc. I remember personally ducking bullets at the nightclub called the Ritz. I really dont mind, they can play the music, fight all they want, but dont get innocent people involved in it, because then they are simply criminals. I can point you to one place right now I notice, sunday nights, Club 601, looked like there was a riot there this weekend, and causing other drivers on their way home on Bay street, to bob and weave out of on coming motorbikes and cars, people running in front of cars, etc. There was no control, even though there were a few cops there. Question, where do our police get their training from, in respect to cround and gang control?? I guess a better question is, do they get training? Those people should not be allowed to block a main road, in fact, with all the crowds they get there, they should close it down and have them move it OFF the main road. You never see anything like that down the road at waterloo, it is more controlled and kept withing their grounds, if and when there is a problem, which is rare. Freedomfight 05-28-04, - 12:01 AM First, the police does not do anything. Then when the police does something, you gauys make noise that it is unruly, full of murderers and all that crap. Rory, you are just never satisfied. It is not only up to the police but up to the parents, teachers, leaders to train young people to prevent this chaos. No supertrained group of police officers can control a crowd being outnumbered by 10s of times. It is only the sense of morals, values and reasonability put in the people that will make them controllable. Rory 05-28-04, - 12:17 AM First, the police does not do anything. But yes, it is obviously moreso the problem of the crowd themselves. It should not have been allowed to take place, without proper security, and or police presence, if they must have it in the first place. They should have also limited the amount of alchohol, as that is a nightmare waiting to happen. They would have been required to obtain a permit and it would have had to have listed security control, alchohol licences, etc. Properly trained police trained in crowd control, can handle a crowd with proper training and equipment. The main thing is, were the police there in the first place. For example, there were hundreds of unruly people on bay street outside of Club 601 on sunday night, blocking traffic, driving the wrong way up the street, and we had to dodge them, along with wheeling motorbikes, gangs, etc. There was 1 police car, which obviously could not do anything to stop the chaos, I wouldnt If i were them, id call for back up or get out of there. It sounds to me like you do not have much experience with our local police controlling certain situations; they mean well, but the training is just not there. They really need raises, good equipment, and certain tranining in specific situations. I agree teachers and more importantly parents should teach their children better morals and values; as for our community leaders, they would be the last ones I would want teaching my kids anything! Ofcourse the same could be said for certain parents and teachers. This is a big problem and not an easy one to solve in Nassau, there is so much that can be done, but in the past 2 decades, it has stayed the same. Rory 05-28-04, - 12:22 AM For example, Beenie Bags, Smoke Grenades, High Powered Water, all used in crown control. If they are throwing rocks and cans, then the crowd is well out of control, add some surveillance cameras, which the event sponsor would have to provide, and after the fact they can help to arrest the main perps. There are alot of solutions to everything and every problem, there currently appears to be noone in power with the ideas to provide these solutions. Also, where do you get that "when the police does something, you guys make noise that it is unruly, full of murderers and all that crap"?? If you mean the traffic stops, that is not doing their jobs, that is the inspectors or whoever is in charge trying to make people believe they are doing something, when 99% of the remainder of the time, this island is lawless when it comes to Traffic Law, and common sense. Rory Great Demos 05-28-04, - 02:49 AM Rory and others, one thing I believe and I hope I don't have to say this forever. Much of the problems we are facing is because of the fact that we take too long to try to fix or correct anything. And I believe most of it can be placed at the foot of the government. Can any one recall not long after 1967, when the govenment did not even know we were having a drug problem, it was found that some school children were experimenting with drugs!!!??? Now isn't that something? So it appears, as the leaders go, so do the people. All these messy issues, crime, drugs, gangs -- we just let them go on forever. Then one day when we see all hell start breaking loose, we start scratching our heads and trying to resolve issues that should have been dealt with decades ago! The chickens have certainly come home to roost!!! GodSign 05-31-04, - 08:44 AM alchohol is one of the devil's greatest tools. Then TV and then music. television=devilvision.
