Iupdate 05-25-04, - 10:26 PM Does anybody know why it takes so long to receive foreign mail from the bahamain post office????????? :dgi: From my experience working at the airport (the NIA), your mail is probably sitting outside in a container stacked away neatly somewhere in the corner of the ramp, but you will get your mail whenever they are ready to use that container again. Or, maybe your mail is in a postal mail bag shoved away somewhere in the baggage section of Bahamas Custom someone has kicked it under a box or a stack of bags in the baggage room of some airline probably Bahamas air. But, you will get your mail whenever they are ready to clear the floor or the baggage rooms. Your mail is no doubt in the Bahamas and most likely right at the post offices sitting waiting for some one to put it in your box, notices the entry stamped date always about one month before you get it. Your mail is in Nassau alright but it could be anywhere on the island. You will get your mail, who knows when, it always arrives. Main time I suggest that you ask the sender to forward it to you at least two more times just incase, and I can guarantee you that when you get one you will get all three at the same time. We have put up with this kind of service for to long with no end in sight. We have been long time ready for a change but it seems those who can make the change possible are not ready. So, then, as for now we have very little choice but to put up with this low rated service that represents the post offices mail service of the 1920’s. CG 05-26-04, - 10:36 AM The local mail is not that hot either! :hot: Orlanoel 05-26-04, - 02:07 PM The local mail is not that hot either! :hot: It would appear to me that the only BAHAMIAN MAIL is MSN Hotmail. Now I am a Trinidadian :tandt: with some valued friends in the Bahamas. I have sent one of my friends mail on three or four occasions and I am really amazed at the length of time it take for that mail to reach my friend. I have sent it to the friend's home and to the office and it is the SAME OLD STORY. IT TAKES TWO LONG. You MUST do something about this. It says absolutely NOTHING, NADA, RIEN for PUBLIC SERVICE REFORM!!! Please Minister with responsibility for The Postal Service .. DO SOMETHING QUICKLY JJ Sweet 05-26-04, - 04:13 PM thank you for the replys :cutie: Freedomfight 05-27-04, - 09:36 AM From my experience working at the airport (the NIA), your mail is probably sitting outside in a container stacked away neatly somewhere in the corner of the ramp, but you will get your mail whenever they are ready to use that container again. Sounds like you have experience dealing with mail arriving at the airport. Did you also deal with the arrival os UPS and FEdEx packages? What kind of issues are there with these? Great Demos 05-27-04, - 05:30 PM Well, let me give my 2 cents. In the case of foreign mails, I don't know how many persons handle the mail (eg, the different airlines, couriers, truckers, etc, but let's say there are about 6 or more different handlers, then it could be extremely difficult to determine where the problem lie. If you try to investigate, each handler would be blaming the other, etc. (Even the truck driver who delivered the letters to your post office, or the employee at the post office who sorted the letters could be the culprit!) And if 5 of the 6 handlers be extremely efficient in their work, that ONE handler who was tardy or careless could have messed up the whole process and caused the great delay. Now I guess you have to be some kind of genius to really put a procedure in place that would correct this type of inefficiency. Solomon, your assistance, please! That is a pretty good surmise, but, how is it that FedX, UPS, DHL and I think we even have a private postal service located somewhere in Cable Beach somewhere, how is it that they can get it just about right almost 100% of the time and our local post office after decades have not gotten it yet? What about other countries where you can get your mail only after 3 to 10 days from anywhere in the world. I have lived in several countries and have never ever experience this problem anywhere near what we have here in Nassau. You know more than half of the time I go to my box and someone else’s mail is in my box, I share the courtesy of returning the mail so that it can be delivered to the true receiver. Believe it or not, there were times the same mail came back to my box several times even though the envelope was address with a different box number. I think this is more of a local post office problem rather than a air, sea or ground handlers problem. I respect the fact that the mail might be on the ramp an in custom and that happens some times, but the problem is beyond that. It is only a point of those doing the job at the post office doing it right and making it right and I am sure it can be made right with a little more concern for others. Did you also deal with the arrival os UPS and FEdEx packages? What kind of issues are there with these? I don’t have an issue with FedX or UPS services and I will not compare, they do a pretty good job. There are some people who have problems with these services, and in some countries if you don’t get good services from these carriers you get your money back sort of an extra insurance or assurance if I must say, so then the handlers must always be on the ball or they get penalize for this. Look, anyone can screw up at times, all of that is in getting it right and getting it right the first time. The mail or express mail might arrive by any airline, some of the express services offer schedule services and might be one or two flight a day, but the major carriers handle this service when there is break down in the line. The transportation services and ground handling of the mail be it postal or express mail is handled very well with limited delays. I think the problem is at our local post offices, we need to sort out this problem and stop pretending, this includes all public services, including our medical clinics and hospital services, taxi and jitney services and all other local public services that we are paying for in every which way. Great Demos 05-28-04, - 02:09 AM Well Iupdate, I guess we will have to privatise these services for them to really run efficiently. Here is one for the books: For the past about 6 years there was a billing from Batelco coming to my box which was NOT mine. Religiously, for well over a year, I would take the letter to the counter and explain to the clerk that the mail is NOT for my box, send it back to sender, etc. After about a year or more, I got tired of doing this. All the postal workers could say is that Batelco is not doing their job, because they keep returning the letter to them -- they were doing their part. I tried to call Batelco a few times to explain but was never able to get through. Up to today, that billing still comes to my box. For the life of me, I can never understand this!!! I had the same thing happen to me. Everything I tried made no difference. I finally took the misaddressed bill down to the Betelco offices. After a long wait I was told that the address was correct! I reminded them that I was the renter of the P.O.Box and I knew of no one by that name. After some humming and hawing they told me that they would no longer send the bills to me. The next month, there is was! That was two years ago. Every month I write "return to sender," maybe one day they will get the message! I mean, I thought my incident was ridiculous beyond the nth degree, but mine is a complete joke compared to yours!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!! I believe if I were to study the English Language for the next 100 years I would still be unable to express how outstandingly ridiculous and antiquated the workers at Batelco has dealt with this!!! |
