Which brand of used vehicles are Bahamina mechanics familiar with, and also are car parts available or will I have to go to Nassau via mail boat from Exuma to get parts? I would prefer a 10 year old car or small truck.

anything from nissans, toyota, honda, ford, gm, chevy, etc... basically any of the major brands you would get in the states

parts for hondas in particular can be hard to find here on exuma... but AID carries part for just about all of the major brands.... the next option is going to nassau... having it shipped via the grandmaster or the sealink/seawind.... and of course the final option would be to go through a guy named bob at sideline performance in ft lauderdale who can get you just abouy any part you need, and have it air freighted over on Reggie's express (which comes in 3-4 times a week)

another option you might consider is getting a vehicle direct out of japan... the only difference is the model name and it being a right hand drive versus the american left hand drive

It's nice to see that consumer confidence in Bahamian services are at an all time high!:bouncy:

nah man, there's a couple good ones out there, but they are a rare species (like trying to find a decent restaurant in Nassau other than the ones that charge $20 a meal) ... also the good ones are very busy and that means being without a vehicle or waiting a while until they have the time ...

I spent near $700 at a local brake place on new brakes etc, only for the brakes to break or come loose a couple weeks after (one side or the other, never figured out which), took it back 3 times and they couldnt figure it out, all the time spent was costing me too much money and time i just gave up .. breaks worked ok for a month or so, but now they are almost right back to where they where 4 months ago .. i keep meaning to take it to the real mechanic but ..... its my only trans .. :(

I'm enjoying reading the replies, my favorite is the bacardi one:) But having run repair shops for 10 years in my life and probably a few more the comments here are no different than in the states. Everyone feels like their dress is blowing up in their face when they talk with a wrench/mechanic. But there are ways to find out if the place of choice does good work. There are more repair shops in the states generally, you can get screwed just as easily here as anywhere. In your everyday life make this part of your conversation with others, where do you go? You'll find everyone likes to tell you about the good mechanic and more so the ones to stay away from. Good luck.
