Another organization is the BCA Bahama Contractors Association. I have contacted all their general contractors and found few that would work in Exuma. Their website has some good information but its been quite a few years since anything has been updated. I did get responses from a few that I would of liked to meet, but the cost of them getting to Exuma + housing + travel from Nassau, and their lack of local contacts etc. made me shy away. I feel it would be much cheaper for me to move to Exuma during the buildout period, pay rent, perform periodic payouts upon each stage completion and inturn I would get to know the locals and make new friends. I shy away from giving dollars needed for travel time, when I could give those dollars directly to the general that's performing the build out. There is nothing like one on one meeting with the general contractor, looking him in the eye, having him show you his work and also talking with the local inspectors on the quality of his work and also his subs electrical, plumbing and such. I'm only going to build a small 800 sq ft. house but I've no ability to run over budget and have only one chance to get it right. For me I would not risk it, but would spend the time and money to make sure the man I was dealing with has great integrity and trust with those that know him. I am by no means trying to bad mouth this organization, just giving you my thoughts on who I would want to trust with my $$$$$$$$$$$$$. It took me almost 1 year to find a legal orgainzation I felt comfortable with to handle my legal documents. But I prefer having a local general do my work, they have allot more at stake, plus I would recommend him to my friends and who knows where that will go.
