View Full Version : Our Incompetent Judiciary: Gomez
pevans 07-22-07, - 05:41 AM I been looking here for a week to see if our national shame is being recognised.
Roger Gomez removed from the Daniel Smith inquiry for the amateurish act of prejudicing the case by speaking in the media! He was removed by Justice Lyons...and once again Lyons is right.
No mention of this sad state of affairs here on BI...is it because we are full of 'cultural cringe' and shame that a foreigner dares to expose our incompetent judiciary once again? Or are we just disinterested? If we are the latter, then the system that is broke will be 'broker' coz these things will not clear up! Or are we just resigned to the fact that nothing can or will be done.
Too many 2-bit Buckingham University lawyers in this Bahamaland!
Objective thought 07-22-07, - 06:01 AM That's because here on BI there are too much FNM supporters and they had a field day critizing the PLP govt for removing Linda Virgil from the case for doing the same thing so they don't want it to appear as though they are putting their feet in ther mouths!!
That is the gest of it and the PLP had every right to move her from the case as Lyons has to remove Gomez!!!! In both cases I agree with what has been done and if we want it to be differently then we must push for our laws to be changed!!!
I just have a feeling that Gomez knew exactly what he was doing and he was hoping to be removed from the case and he got his wish!!!!
pevans 07-22-07, - 06:47 AM That's very interesting, Objective Thought. Thanks for your contribution.

Hey pevans, i see you joined in 2003 and that you are located right here in Nassau. You say you've been looking here for a week to see if our national shame is been recognised. Have you been banned from started a topic? If something is meaningful to you, especially if you are ashamed, SPEAK UP man. Surely you don't need hop in during the 'train' when you can be the conductor.:bouncy:
For me, our national shame is the rate of crime and education!! The judiciary is far down the list in MY column of shame.
I invite you to read the latest threads. The topics that are the rage lately are homosexuality and christianity. Politics is also very popular. Were you afraid to start a new topic?
In the past, there has hardly been a topic here that has not be rehashed, disected and discussed again and again. I for one, agree with Justice Lyons. I was SHOCKED to see our lawyers and judges on primetime American TV shows, discussing, what they tell reporters here, that they are not at liberty to discuss. Isn't it amazing what the cameras does to some folks. I was also SHOCKED at how candid and confident our local celebrities were. I don't know, maybe it was their 15 minutes. It is said that EVERYONE is entilited to theirs.
Justice Lyons had been discussed and bashed, I think most of us agree with his rulings, some of us DO NOT. Incompotent lawyers have also been discussed and bashed. I did my share of BASHINGS them from personal experiences.
Do not be shy pevans. Hop in, we will either reply to or ignore you. Some may agree with your thoughts, some here will tell you how they suck teet at your thread. All in all, its all good.

The PLP government romved Linda Virgill from the Daniel Smith case??? I thought that that was done by the Chief Justice, Sir Burton Hall? The Judiciary is not independent you think? Do they gettheir marching orders from the AG? The AG says no, butmaybe she was lying.

Nice twist. But i doubt it is the truth. Judge Gomez just got catch doing the same thing for which he and his political hacks removed Judge Virgil. It is called hypocrisy or Poetic Justice. Take your pick. Having said that there is no doubt that the Judiciary needs a shot in the arm-- and right well quick.

Well this was after the ruling that the judicuary is not independent. Well that ruling hasn't changed either though.
But I laugh at the starstruck lawyers and judges during this whole process who were so eager to be on CNN / Nancy Grace et. al. that they forgot the restrictions of their own sovereignty. They might as well tape the proceedings in the Supreme Court.

Well that is what the FNMs were saying...
They said that the PLP govt ordered the court that she headed shut down because she was an FNM!!!
But I know that she got word from the Chief justice....
But FNMs believe that the Chieff justice got word from the PLP govt!!
All through the hustle and bustle about the judiciary everyone blamed the then attorney general Allyson G.
So why not blame the now attorney general???

I believe that that was Gomez's reason for doing what he did because the FNM is now in power!!
I think that when he (Gomez) did this, it was while the PLP was still in power, and just maybe he had a feeling that the PLP was about to lose and he did that hoping that when the new govt came in they would dismiss him from the case so that they can put one of their goons to head this case...
You say that the judiciary is independent ,well, I know that it is supposed to be!!!
Just my opinion so don't bite my head off....
Objective thought 07-22-07, - 10:52 AM You starting to remind me of "Alien" with all the FNM talk mind.
I like politics and like I often say, life is what it is and that is politics!!
None of us can run from it as long as we are a part of this world politics will play a very important roll in our lives whether we care or not, that's just the way it is!!!!
So stick your head in the sand and let other people decide your future!!!
If you don't stand for something you will fall for anything!!!!

Any judge/lawyer can and often do recuse themselves from cases. Gomez, if he did not want to be on the said case, did not HAVE to be on it!
To be dismissed from a case does NOT inspire confidence in a judge. It achieves quite the opposite.
One of their goons you say. OT, you surprise me.:sarcastic
Judges here would be deluding themselves if they thought for one second that the public or political supporters are concerned about which judge is heading a case.
BTW.....Justice Anita Allen is one of the judges who will be on one of the election court cases. Should FNM's be alarmed about that? If the government did not think the proceedings will be fair, why would they put the wife of a former government minister and present vocal supporter of the former PM to be a judge in this case?.......just asking....

You know OT, that saying that if you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything, has always been a curious one to me.
Ever notice how the only time folks use it is to put a guilt trip on people who either don't agree with them or does not possess the same amount of zeal desired on a particular issue.
We stand for certian issues everyday, some of this issues may not be life shattering but they makes us who we are. Let's say I 'stand' against tardiness, which I abhor. If I have to attend a so called VERY important meeting, say like a union meeting, to vote to strike. I am pissed that a meeting that is supposed to start a 10am, finally starts at 12noon. I leave saying I am sick and tired of making efforts to arrive on time to all meetings, but they never get started on time no matter how important. It won't be long before some latecomer shouts that because I don't want to stick around for the vote, 'If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything."
Here I am standing for something. It matters not to latecomers that my time has been wasted. To them, to stand means to hang around forever waiting on them so we can vote!!
This is longwinded, I know. Its just my little view on "If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything."

FNMs should be concerned but if they are not now, then let's see if that would change if the court rules in favor of the PLP!!!
The we will know just how independent the judiciary really is!!!
Even though I have not forgotten that the FNM has said that what went on between the PLP and the judiciary will never happen under their leadership!!
We will have to wait and see!!
None of us can run from it as long as we are a part of this world politics will play a very important roll in our lives whether we care or not, that's just the way it is!!!!
Politricks has no part in my live, nor for most civilians .. once every 15 years for me and then i forget it exists. ;)
Now that said, I dont do any work for the gubberment so I dont have to worry about who I pay off to get the job, whether they are PLP or FNM ..
