I listened to the Minister Of State for Utilities last night making his contribution to the speech from the throne, where he mentioned that B.E.C has not made a profit since Bradley Roberts authorised that rates be lowered without a study being done, he also said losses will be higher if things remain the same.how come B.E.C management did not report these losses?I always thought B.E.C was making money like crazy, based on what I'm paying every month, they should never be in the red.

You are telling me that A monopoly is in debt! I will like to know the financial breakdown that caused such debt. How much BEC lost during the last fiscal year? Do you know?

I found a paper on privatisation in the Bahamas. Its about 10 years old though:

http://www.stanford.edu/~rabushka/Privatization%20in%20The%20Bahamas.pdf

Maybe that explains why BEC is in debt. The government runs up a huge bill that they never pay.

More BEC debt:

...and yall don't think the Bahamas needs all the brains it can get?? This debt structure looks like Ronald McDonald did it.

LOL@ blaming the FNM because you exposed yourself to interest rate risks. How dumb.

Neymor needs to charged for "treason" against the Bahamian public with his assinine statements. He dare to state that the burden for BEC increase profits should lie on the Bahamian public is rediculous. High BEC bills are killing the small man. Its killing the middle class and they continue to crush us with their huge price increases; yet they want us to believe they losing money. I say show the statements; Let us see the profit and losses: the balance sheets. Neymor needs to resign for saying and promoting foolishness. He is encouraging anarchy in this Bahamas.

Something is drastically wrong in the Gov. sector. NO government entity should be in debt.

my point, is we shouldn't have to bear it at all...
plus, he did not give detail as to who else will bear it...just that our government will think up of ways on how to increase their profits. We all know that at the end only the consumer suffers.

It was nonsense that the minister said. What govt needs to do is restructure the way we collect debt in this country.Blaming the loss on Bradley Roberts is just showing us how simple govts. think the Bahamian people are. And the sad part is that those who tow the party line will buy into it.

i say let government bear the burdens by lowering the duty it charges BEC for fuel, oe let Bradley Roberts pay for it, BEC has never been in this position since its inception.I thought BEC was almost like NAtional Insurance where if the Government wanted to borrow money they could get it from BEC, never thought i would see the day when BEC would be like Bahamasair.

Do you believe that it's that simple?
