I was disheartened this week when I heard the Minister of National Security say the Defence Force is having a difficult time putting together a squad of 50 men who can pass the basic math requirements to join the Force.

Instead of spending scolarship money on Alien and people like him for them to just to just come home and work in a bank or in the Ministry of finance, then go into politics and tief, we should make them join the defense force!

Went to their special little training day, did "ok" on the physical, had my degree allready; two months later, guys who were just as smart, or, dumber, heheheeehe, were in uniform. Don't even get me started on the guys who failed the physical.

But, no one does make me join nuttin. If I were to be trapped in tha job, I would not be here in time to tell you where we going wrong.

But the thing is, the Defense Force matter is obviously not unique. Other organisations bemoan the same thing, that they struggle to find a group of Bahamian men who can pass either basic tests or drug tests. This, indeed is a serious matter.

Sure they can find women to fill these posts, but certainly we cant just give up on our men.

Maybe nature has selectedthe male to be wittled out if we believe in Darwins theories that concern natural selection, etc. We men need to do more or soon we will not be needed, and become irrelevant to society, women, or even as fathers.

LOL..Well I certainly dont believe that, though I get your point.

We Bahamians need to get our noses out of the air and start taking serious stock of where this country is at and where it is headed..because somehow our high per-capita salaries and our strong U.S influence have caused us to believe that we stand head and shoulders above our brothers and sisters in our region.

If you see the typical resume that young people send into companies these days you would be horrified. The simplest words many of them cant spell. It would almost be hilarious if it wasnt so downright serious.

I know someone who graduted with NO BJCs or BGSCEs and had a job at Kentucky but quit, saying the job was too lowly for her. By damn..you left school with nothing to show for your 12 years but you think you are too good to work to KFC???????/

Its a disgrace that our students brag about taking 5 BGCSEs and when you ask them what their grades were, they go, "Oh, I got two G's and three U's", and then they have the gumption to say, "that's like an A for that level, though". :taped2:
