 why arent we in business then! what are we waiting for! see I told yinna we could use our god given natural resources (sun water and sand) to the best of our abilities...and we can still own our land!
...say when!

The production requires some very technical and expensive equipment - very, very expensive!

:gi: what is "very very expensive"? last ime I checked 700 just in time for christmas could have be served for a better purpose...what were you really trying to say CG :gi: :uh: you dont think we have the ability to do it?
we could partner with the companies to have them come to our shores and build a silicon plant...what about selling the sand..it sure would yield more that to the other people we sell our sand too...just a thought...you know there is more than one way to skin a cat!

Millions, perhaps billions!

No we don’t.
we could partner with the companies to have them come to our shores and build a silicon plant...
But that would mean more foreigners.
what about selling the sand..
Are you ready to strip the beaches? I am not sure about this but it may take truck loads of sand to produce a few ounces of pure usable silicon.
it sure would yield more that to the other people we sell our sand too...just a thought...you know there is more than one way to skin a cat!
What would we do with the waste products? Tons and tons of it! There is a lot to look into before we jump into such a production!

A good one though! :)
Some day we will find leaders with creative thinking that will, at least, look into it!

FDI is more than hotel development...
you know I dont have a problem with foreignors I just have a problem with the same kind doing the same thing getting the same things from our govt (concessions, practically free Bahamian land et al)

I agree. We are stuck in the same old, same old. We need thinkers, no matter where they come from.

Here are two stories. In India a few guys came up with an idea to produce methane gas. The problem was that outlying village were too far out to hook to city supplies of electricity etc. So they built a holding tank in which they stored cow manure! There is plenty of that around in India where cows are sacred. The rotting manure produce gas what was drawn off for cooking gas and to power a small electricity plant.

There was another guy in India (maybe we need to import guys from India!) That makes artificial legs from car tires and scrap building wood. They looked like hell but they function as good or better that those produced in the West. I remember seeing a picture of a fellow who had lost both legs. He was fitted with the Indian legs and he was climbing a Coconut tree better that you or I could!!!

Maybe that is why India is moving forward by leaps and bounds. Their government encourages thinking, no matter how small. Our government hardly recognizes it!

thats what we need...no more importing people from India...fred mitchell has done his fair share...and many of our medical folks are from there...we need to recognize the value in our own people...great stories though! but you know Im an environmentalist...no methane gas here...you want to destroy our environment! we have all this sun here....what about wind energy?

Methane works for them! We dont have the cows lol! It is the thinking I am stressing.

As for the India doctors. They are educated and I am sure very good but some times education, educates creative thinking out of a body and destroys it! He becomes just another clog in the wheel. The guys I wrote about could hardly read! :)

wow the power of an idea and instinct! its a lot of that here...its just not being nurtured for more!

True, it is not. That is what I am saying.

If I was PM I would form a committee - might even have you head it lol. :) Your job would be to go onto the highways and the byways of this nation and....listen! Listen to ideas and bring them back to see if they were workable. Many may not be, but a few would be. Those few would, could, change our nation! Unless we look, and listen, we will never know what treasures we might find.

Newsflash: The majority of ideas discussed here have been looked at & are sitting on some bigwigs desk gathering dusk. We do have alot of brilliant young technocrats in this country ya know. The problem is NO ONE IN CHARGE listens.:taped2:

well they can use my ideas...I gave them to Bahamian humanity...and how do you know that anyway! why dont they listen?

A silicon wafer production plant costs several billion dollars to design and build. As far as waste from wafer production, it will be considerable but I don't think it is as much as you think. I have felt for some time that we missed the boat when companies were considering locations to build their fabs. Lack of necessary infrastructure deprived us back then, I hope that we have everything in place if we are to take advantage of the next round of fab deployment when smart phones become more pervasive. I think that Central or North Andros would be an idael place for such a venture. Israel and Germany have built quite an industry out of chip manufacturing, so could we.
