Bridge Repairs Could Cost Millions
By Macushla N. Pinder

Preliminary estimates indicate that it would cost somewhere between $3 million and $5 million to complete remediation work on the old Paradise Island bridge, according to Minister of Works Dr. Earl Deveaux, who said this would be in addition to the estimated $250,000 needed to mobilize specialized equipment and divers and conduct testing......

you know if that bridge collapsed in brazil or mongolia nobody would give a flip about checking bridges, much less the PI bridge.

why is it that everyone's eye is always on america? ask almost any foriegn person who is the president of the usa or when the next elections are and they can tell you.

like i said i walked over the old bridge before and i dont know if it is suppose to be this way but there are some majors wholes/gaps/spaces in it and to me it shaked uncomfortably and after reading that article i am even more fearful now of that bridge.

15 ton load limit i am sure many a day that bridge comes close to that or meets that.

so if that bridge never collapsed in the usa no effort would be made to inspect and maintain a bridge that is in clear need of some TLC?

that bridge is 40 yrs old? this is around the time when they like to collapse, if they are not kept in check.

the fact that this bridge is sitting in corrosive salt water makes things even worse.

i was looking at it as I passed today, and they really need a new bridge coming over to NP now .. that 2 lane bridge is just not big enough to handle all the traffic that exists now .. 3, or 4 lanes at the least are needed now.
