heard it from some Spanish Wells people I know living here in Nassau. This is not 100% verified yet but the story is this:

2 Spanish Wells Fishermen diving from a 20+' boat somewhere near Andros and the Berry Islands (?), while one was in the water the other was on the boat, meanwhile an American Scarab being run by a US Doctor and his family, ran into the Fishermen's boat and cut it into pieces.

The Doctor had put it on Auto Pilot (?) and then went down to the cabin. The Fisherman in the water diving felt a tug on the cable he was attached to and came up to find their boat in pieces. The other fisherman who had been on the boat was critically injured from the accident and his injuries included extreme internal and external injuries which may or may not have been caused by the Scarab's powerful motors.

Apparently the Coast Guard picked him up and took him to Nassau, where he was then driven to the hospital. The Coast Guard landing is on the other side of the island so I imagine that drive from there to the Hospital did not help.

While I was speaking with the people I know, they came off the phone with someone and said the man had just succumbed to his injuries.

This is not 100% verified, but I would say the source is good.

Now I wonder what will happen to the American person that was driving the scarab?
This was in Bahamian waters by the way.

My brother just heard the same news. He was a commercial fisherman for 20plus years (this is his first season out of the "business") and also goes to Andros pigeon shooting, so he knows quite a few SW people. Not sure if he knew the victim or just his relatives. My brother says the SW man was in his early 50's. Very, very sad! What an awful start to the crawfish season for their community!
As to the person responsible, there must be some charge..vehicular homicide??

Yeah they weren't sure of his age, but that he was around their age, and they knew him (don't know how well though). They are in their 40's so its possible he was in his early 50's like you said. I think they mentioned he had a son who was around 30 ish.

I don't know what they would charge the Scarab Driver with, if anything. It definitely doesn't sound like an accident though. They said there were other fishing boats in the area and they must have called for help.

Sad though ..

That is very, very sad. He (the American Doctor) could certainly be charged with negligence and probably sued in the US court system.

My husband works with a member of the fishermans family, and the fishermans boat was not cut in half, she sank, but they were able to bail her out and get her to float again. As for the fisherman he was pretty much dead on impact, he had a slight pulse, but they lost him on the chopper flying him in to nassau. His injuries were to graphic to even mention....if anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask.

Our courts suck, these people should be compensated, as should the family of this fisherman. This is just tragic!
