A man who was recently exonerated in the Supreme Court of armed robbery charges is now suing the Commissioner of Police and the Attorney General for damages in the amount of $500,000 on the grounds of unlawful arrest and detention.
A statement of writ released to the press by the attorneys at Dorsey McPhee and Co., served on the attorney general on July 11, 2007, outlined that Raymond John Hanna, 23, was arrested on Dec. 22, 2004 and unlawfully detained from Dec. 25 to Dec. 29, 2004.
Hanna is also suing for exemplary and aggravated damages for false arrest, assault and battery, malicious prosecution, pain and suffering, as well as interest, costs and any other relief the court may deem just.
